So despite the threat of rain. I rode up towards Bear Mountain before the break of dawn to hit some twisties. Which made it possible to turn my chicken strips into chicken fingers or maybe BK's chicken fries.
It was still dark when I got there and had dew on some tree lined parts of the road so I took it a little easy til sunrise.
I'm thinking I should make this my Sunday routine when there's no meet ups scheduled of course. Was nice having it mostly all to myself and I could use the practice.
Remember to watch for deer, saw at least 6 of them on three seperate sightings.
Of course. Not sure how busy it is this time of year but it's definitely busy during the summer, popular with motorcyclists. Maybe we can do one in October. Besides the short fun roads I head up there for, I know not much else about anything of interest in the area. It's definitely a long way from long Island.
The fastest way there is FDR to GWB to Palisades Parkway. Took me about an hour to get there this morning.
Or if you have time and want to ride longer you could probably take route 9W or 9 up towards Bear Mountain. Have never done it (the long way) myself.
Would be cool if you could just transfer/upload the route to Google maps.
I don't mind. Looks like a good run. I know the Harriman State Park Area, that's where I went Sunday.
So just from looking at Google maps there's a couple roads that look extra curvy but not sure of the surface, might be gravel. In particular off Dennytown road around oscawana lake area,Indian Brook Road and Clear Lake road.
oh man. I babysat my nephew the entire weekend. Was glad that Saturday was relatively a washout. But Sunday was nice. Too bad a had other family obligations to attend to...
Sorry guys, my recent silence the result of a bitchy work week, double duty working fill in (the old job) and keeping up with carb commitments....seemingly night after night. Working early AM, then repeatedly moonlighting has become grueling at my age.
I'll get with y'all next weekend, somewhere, somehow.
Hope you're riding is safe and fun. Any GoPro vids yet?
Yeah I remembered you mentioning that you'll be busy.
Ride was great. For me 130 miles round trip. Went through Harriman then to bear mountain and back through Harriman. Saw a pair of deer and slowed down to let them pass. Lots of bugs out and about too!
My bad. I haven't checked in here. I did ride this morning. Rode from my dads to my apartment in Washington Heights to pick up my wife. It was our first real ride 2 up. We went to Nyack and had breakfast at Didier Dumas. I had about 150 miles on the tank when we left Nyack and thought we'd make it all the way back to Queens. NOPE!! At around mile 165, while on the pallisades, the bike starts bogging and slowing--"oh ****" I think to myself. I switch to reserve and a few moments later, the bike starts going again. WHEW!!!! 2 lessons learned. 1--fill up your gas even if you think you're ok. 2--know how to flip the switch to reserve without looking. I actually read this somewhere before and practiced it a few weeks back. It's better than having to pull off and get off.
We got back at like 11 last night. So yeah, don't think I would've made the early run lol. I had full tank when we left and as soon as I got back into Brooklyn the gas light came on.
So how'd you like riding two up on the ex?
Riding two up makes it feel like your on a while new bike.
And how did your wife like being on the bike?
I ride two up, but usually only in the city. So it's a lot more strenuous with the stop and go.
Looks like 7 Lakes Drive.
As OP was for Stony Point (I was there Sunday, as well), you can hit 7 Lakes Drive directly from Stony Point, or even directly off Palisades.
I like taking exit 16 (left exit) and stay right to get onto Tiorati Brook Rd. Take that straight to the traffic circle and get Arden Valley from the second exit.
Hudson Valley Cycles has Ducati demo days this Fri, Sat & Sun.
Not much bikes are available. Mostly the hypermotard, multisrada and the scrambler desert sled, the rest are already booked up. You can go to there website to sign up if interested.
I might head up there Sunday to try out the desert sled.
