Quick question!

2002 GPZ500 with 10k miles on the clock, some cosmetic (minor) dmg to fairing, and small dent in tank - how much should I pay? 8 months MOT no tax.

Re: Quick question!

The damage to the tank and plastic,s would put me off but because of this i would not pay more than 700.... I payed only 1300 for mine in mint nick with about 12k mile and a full service about 4 years ago.

Re: Quick question!

I was thinking about 800 for similar reasons, somehow it managed to go for 1020 - at this time of year I wasnt expecting that! Shame, I really wanted it - will have to keep on looking.

Re: Quick question!

Pretty despairing stuff!

Lost out on the afore mentioned GPZ - went today to look at a 2001 Fazer for 1295, mechanically very sound but the red paint work is quite badly sun bleached. Told them I'd sleep on it, and come home. Already finding myself wishing for a GPZ instead - stupid really the fazer is a great bike and they are willing to put new chain n sprockets on it for me and tax it - but it just didnt FEEL right - I think it might have been the bars/riding position - who knows!

Anybody know any other GPZ like bikes for around a grand or so?

What would you pay me for mine ? with 23,500 miles on and the only thing it needs is a new front tire.

Re: Quick question!

Without seeing it first hand, Im afraid I would only be able to offer about 1400, I paid 1200 for my old one (albeit a couple of years ago) with 15k on the clock and in almost A1 condition.

I personally think its probably worth somewhere north of 1700 due to the almost certain upgrades you have given it - maybe more. did you not have a hagon shock on it if memory serves?

It's a real shame our investments dont transfer into resale value 90% of the time - I only got 770 for mine when i sold it last year, yet I had invested at least the same again into it.

Re: Quick question!

Like you said in the last part of your reply it is a shame that the money you invest in any bike never seams to reflect in the resale but i think all bikes are a money pits.. but hay ho better bikes than drugs or drink LoL.

Real money........English puond's,

Any Bike, or any vehicle for that matter, is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There have been a couple of 500's on EBay recently, one close to me went for 395, I had a look at it before the auction end, someone got a bargain there, it was a very tidy bike.
At the other "extreme" there is this, same year as mine.

Re: Quick question!

The randomness of ebay continues!

I just won the following auction as the only bidder!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1609288420...84.m1423.l2649

Presuming I find a way to get to it in "Devon" and all goes well you guys can welcome me back to the fold! At that price I dont mind a little bit of work bringing it to standard.

2003, 16k miles, looks to have delkevic stainless exhaust etc, and even comes with restrictors to sell on for a little more cash back! only bit I dont like is that it has a non standard left mirror due to some damage, the damage looks like an easy enough fix and a mirror wont be much.

feeling relatively awesome right now!

Re: Quick question!

Congrats, that looks a decent bike for a good price.
Looks like somebody may be taking a train journey,?, .

I've seen some real bargains on EBay the last few weeks, now is the time to "Bike Hunt" to get the best price, come Feb time the prices start to increase again.

Re: Quick question!

Im hoping for a train journey, but the seller is yet to get back to me with an address. If its too far out the way of a station I'll have to try and codge a lift off a friend.

I cant imagine the seller will be happy about the price, but that's the dice roll you take with ebay. And for once I may be on the right side of a bum deal lol!

Or get a Taxi,

That's the chance you take when selling on EBay, it goes for whatever the final price reaches.

still no contact since the auction ended earlier today - I was hoping to get an address and a plan of action for tomorrow but looks like I might have to wait until next weekend.

You never know, you may get a reply tonight and could be riding it home tomorrow, .

I've been doing a lot of buying from EBay the last 12 month's or so, I've been collecting old Mamod steam engine's, and some sellers are much more co-operative than others, .

Re: Quick question!

Quick update - Collected bike yesterday rides pretty good! needs a bit of tidying up with a few superficial rust spots, but it wont take more than a bit of hammerite and some of my time in the warmer months. Its had a new shock, chain and sprockets and stainless downpipes in the last 2 years - and the suspected delkevics were indeed, but un-expectedly they are the titanium ones.

Typically it had to rain though on me the whole way back (had been sunny all day til then) so I am very happy that my wife came with as I needed to sit in the car several times to get feeling back in my digits. (so much for waterprrof gloves!)

Re: Quick question!

I'd say you got a real good deal there, well done!

I agree now is a good time to buy a bike, but it's all about supply and demand. Been looking out for a couple of months for a trials style 50cc for David, these are pretty rare so values hold up really well. Looked at a couple of basket cases, missed one good deal, eventually (last night) settled on a 2003 Suzuki RMX50 with 8,000 miles for 650. Now that really makes your purchase look like a good deal!!

2000 D7, K&N air filter, Delkevic exhaust system, Hagon rear shock.

Got to agree with you there Si, the smaller Trial's/M X type bikes hold their price very well. A good condition 50cc to 125cc will bring the same as, if not more, than an equivalent year EX. Having said that though, some people ask laughable prices for, as you say, "basket case's".

Congrats to David on his first bike.............it won't be long before he has that 1000RR,

Re: Quick question!

Thanks guys! been busy working all week but the GPZ has got me there and back no arguments so far!

I'm missing the heated grips of my old bike, and even though this one seems pretty good it has showed me just how together and maintained my old bike was when I sold it.

Niggles so far:

1. very hard to downshift into 2nd or 1st sometimes. Partially solved by slightly pushing shift lever towards engine as well as down. (also might have vanished all together this evening on way home, so maybe something was sticking and has now freed up)

2. rear brake is abysmal! better today after dragging it some on the way home yesterday, looks like the disk was or is quite heavily pitted - will replace if needs be after xmas.

3. quite rough idle (but holds and doesnt stall), also a little slow to pick up from about 4-5k rpm - will benefit from a good tune up, but I'm loath to do that until I have the time, warmth and parts to perform a full up valve adjust, fog mod, k&n airfilter, fuel filter, carb tune and balance. And prolly new plugs while Im at it, brought my old bike to life in one hit, hopefully it will do the same again!

4. oil is over filled - gonna change it along with the filter this weekend hopefully.

5. damn my thumbs are COLD!!! might have to acquire some heated grips.

6. did I mention the cold thumbs?

7. as is typical too much slop in the cush drive, will shim to a better fit when I get the chance.

Despite all that and a huge to do list of "tidying up" to get through I'm loving being back on a motorbike, makes getting to work through traffic easy as!
