Sad story. As a guy who used to do a lot of cycling in an urban environment, I feel much, much safer riding in traffic on my motorcycle than I ever did riding a bicycle. You also have the benifit of a FF Helmet vs a bike helmet and protective gear although the speeds are higher.

This feeling of safety I find comes from the fact that on a bicycle you are constanting being over taken by cars so are dependent on cars avoiding you and there is not much you can do to make yourself safer. There is also the thread of being "doored" when riding alongside park cars on a street. (when someone opens a car door in your narrow path between park cars and traffic, and perhaps throws you into the path of traffic). Or perhaps overtakes you only to brake and turn right down a side street directly in your path. On a motorcycle you are traveling with traffic and have the ability to out accelerate cars when necessary. I still ride a bicycle but try and stick to the 100s of kilometers of bicycle only roads my city has and try and stay off busy public roads with traffic.

I am the genie of the toaster, here to grant you three wishes... provided they are of a toast-based nature.

Yeah, Earl Hayden was quoted over on Road Racing World saying that Nick is not in a medically induced coma but rather is on life support.

I'm no medical specialist, nor trained in anything beyond first aid, but that says worse things to me than medically induced coma......sean
