Doesn't bother me at all, man. I wrote it to show people, and anybody who thinks twice as a result feels like a small victory to me. The consequences here are more serious than I ever imagined just from "knowing" what was at stake.

I got lucky there. Yeah I was, but they came out almost untouched. Absolutely no harm lower than my calves. But I'm surprised they didn't drag off. I don't recommend it.

Get better, you are an inspiration. You could have hid in a dark room and cried how you messed up, but instead you try to help others that may also be in similar cicumstances in the furture. I gurantee that I will always were my protective gear....you hear everyone say, it is not "IF" but "WHEN" something bad will happen. Prepare youself now, learn from others, and expect the unexpected. Thank You for your post.

Hey, at least noone died and you can learn from it. I know I'm wearing gear now even goin around the block, and i already dont ride 2up much. I hate being responsible for someone else. It could have been alot worse. Dont beat yourself up too bad, everyones home, alive and not seriously injured. I dont mean to sound like a d!@k, i know this isnt important at all, but how bad is the bike damaged? Get well soon

All I can say is I'm glad you're alive, and learned a valueable lesson. Things could have been a bit worse than they were, but fortnately some bruises and rash are the worst of your injuries. ATGATT brother. heal up and take care of those wounds.

Yikes, definitely an eye opener for a noob rider like myself. Definitely will think twice before I even consider riding without proper gear. If you need anything at all, I'm local and am happy to lend a hand. At any rate, get well soon.

So sorry brother. I know how much road rash hurts. I was a kid on a 12 speed. I looked exactly like your pics, except for the hands.
They took me to the hospital, but the doctor sent me home without cleaning out the burns. He said,
"Take 2, 20 minute cool baths everyday, starting tomorrow."
I did and the stones fell out on the 2nd through the fourth day. No infection. The ONLY scar I had is where the idiot nurse used a gauze pad and saline solution and abraded my shoulder (I know that pain too.) I swear the cool dunking worked for me.
You feel stupid doing it, but the cool water and the buoyancy feel pretty good, and when you start seeing the little pebbles in the tub when you get up, that feels good too. If you've already abraded the burns, the water speeds healing. Vitamine e for scaring, but after there is a scab, not on raw flesh. You can get hydrocotozone with vitamine e for about $4 at the drugstore.
Heal the wounds, then the emotions if you can. I wish I could send you the painkiller of your choice in the mail. I couldn't emagine it with out a nice selection of meds. Worst case, I'd get my hands on some neocitrine, or night time cold medication. Your burns might effect your sleep, and you gotta sleep to heal.
When I introduced myself to the site a week or so ago, I said I'd never mention safety to another rider ever again, so I won't. What's important now is that you heal up.
Get Well Soon.
Distance.

Benny, start taking
zinc
and
vitamin c
. 10 mg zinc + 1000 mg vitamin c once a day. It speeds healing as well (to about half the regular time). Take them together otherwise the zinc on its own will cause gut rot. I always take it when I've gotten a tattoo or piercing, after surgery, dental work, etc.
For the more emotional/psychological aspects of this, go to a store that sells homeopathic goods. Get a tincture of Bach's "Flower Remedy" and follow the directions. I've been using it in times of stress for years and it does work as well (without the nasty chemical side effects of an Rx).

vitamins are gay. if you want zinc just eat some pecans or cashews. if you want vitamin c just eat some strawberries or oranges.
or just eat proper to begin with and you'll realize that if you have a healthy diet you don't need to take sketchy pills to get what your body needs.

Thanks for posting this benny.
I was thinking about the fact that after I get my license and insurance sorted i'll be tight for clothing money and just using cheap leather/casuals- you've shifted the priorities.
As for the guilt, I have no real idea about what you're going through- all I can say is that its a testament to your character that you are going through it. It speaks volumes. That in itself should strike a chord with the girl.

Benny, Thanks for posting this as a warning to others. I know it must be difficult.
BUT- you stayed with the chick, even though you were in mega-pain, you scrubbed out your own raw meat without pain meds, and you took full responsibillity for the bad decisions: that's warrior-class shit right there, man.
Hope you start to feel better as you heal.

Heal up man! Also understand that you're going to feel SO BAD about what happened for a while and it's OK to feel that way, but eventually you WILL feel better. So use that knowledge to carry you through this tough patch.

As you may recall, I crashed on my road bicycle at 35 mph back in July. My roadrash was pretty bad and I can attest the following works wonders. 1st, buy some epsom salts. 2nd, fill a bath with hot water and pour in a cup or two of the epsom salts. 3rd, soak in the tub until the water gets cold. Do this every night or even twice a day. Also, the vitamin advice is right on the money. Your body is in healing mode. You'll need more calories and vitamins/nutrients to feed your immune system. Vitamin C and zinc are both high on the list for immune system boosters. You'd have eat a ton of strawberries and oranges to supplement what you already get from your day to day diet. I did this, and my road rash healed over completely in less than a month. For lingering pain, I found that 2 Alieve's were perfect. I dropped to a single one after a couple of weeks.
As for your lack of gear, I'll refrain from any admonishment at this time and suffice it to say that I'm very glad neither you nor your passenger are seriously injured. The outcome could have been much, much worse. My wife's best friend is a nurse. She used to be in long term care for the elderly and immobile. One of her two younger patients was a motorcycle rider who did exactly what you did. Only he hit his head and is now in a vegetative state for the remainder of his life. He's only in his late 30s now. The other? A bicycle rider who did what I did when I crashed in July. He wasn't wearing helmet either. I posted pictures of what happened to my helmet in a 35 mph get off. Why anyone would reject wearing a helmet when traveling at that speed, powered or un, is beyond me. 35 mph is 35 mph....it doesn't matter how you got to that speed, hitting the pavement will result in the same damage.......sean
