I have Pirelli Diablo Corsa's on my R1, really good tread and not too old.
Do I need to replace these if I'm doing a track day on the bike in 3 weeks?

Probably not.  However, it never hurts to have a spare set on hand.

Hmm, I was just looking on them tody and I think they are too old.
made in 08 I think.
I am thinking I'm gonna get new tires.
The reason I was asking is because if people took d208's on the track then I think that these couldn't be worse than those, you know?

well the thing about 208s is that yes they suck, but they'll get you around. just don't try to set some blistering laps.

STG has a FANTASTIC deal on Michelin Power Race sets right now. if you want a phenomenal tire for your trackday at a stupid low price, go there now and buy.

they will likely be my 2010 race tire. the power one that comes with the PRD rear is stupid sticky and will outlast the rear 3:1.

If the condition is REALLY good (you want that), not flat spotted up the center from road use (even though they might pass tech), I wouldn't automatically dismiss them just because they are from 2008. Now, if the sat out in the direct sun since then..... Wink

Well, They definitely aren't flat spotted or sun rotted either, so I do believe I'll use them then.
Thanks for the info, I am gonna check out STG for the "race" tires too.

well good luck to you. don't push them too far too fast. Pirellis are good talkers. they start sliding around gradually. You'll know when their shot.

So I guess 1400's are even better at highsides?

1400's, like F4i's, cannot lean. They don't even need a kickstand.

good at looping though.

Not trying to threadjack here, but once the new tires are on, should we put on 100 miles or so to break them in before going to the track?  I'm for sure putting on new tires on the zx600 before doing my track day even though they seem fine for road riding.  I don't trust them on the track.

no, i wouldn't roxy. if you're not using warmers or if you're in the novice group, (since your first few laps are going to be pretty slow anyway) just take your first lap or 2 at a conservative pace. that will be sufficient time to get them scrubbed in.

No. If the installer has been sloppy with the mount lube it's a good idea to wash them with soap and water just to be sure. Even that is usually overkill but some of those lubes can remain slippery. Other than that, run 'em. A couple of laps and gone!!! Cool

Being your first day, expect to be doing your first session or two following the leader to get the line and get settled into the day. That will be more than enough to have the tires good to go. Cool

Ok, cool, thanks guys!  I didn't really want to have to put on a hundred miles with no registration, lol!

Ahh, well I took the 1st off for a day coming up, but I may not be able to go. Sad They require you to be 18 yo with the provider. I emailed the provider so hopefully we can work something out.
yeah, my 1st day.

i'm sure there's a consent form for your parents or legal guardian to fill out and sign.

Sometimes they require you to pre-register your release. i hope that's not the case. It's an insurance thing.

TPM requires under eighteen to have a parent signature and they must be present at the day. Fourteen was the minimum but that may have gone up to sixteen. Those are insurance requirements BTW, not just TPM's decision.

Get your Mom to go. Cool

Does this group have a good first time rider school? Good reputation? Smiley

They are kinda new, but they are so far doing good.
They have a free riders school for first timers with relatively small amount of students per instructor, so I figure at the least I might be able to get some advice, but if not... Oh well.
I can't wait. Getting new tires tomorrow and gonna go through and fix/secure everything.
