Ok, we all agree that the stock mirrors leave a lot to be desired. Twisted Throttle offers the nice machined extenders for $60 plus s/h. Some members here have come up with there own solutions, such as ZX-6 mirrors, L-brackets, eye-bolts, etc.

I was browsing the hardware store today and came up with what you see in the picture. Basically I removed the stock mirrors, attached a pair of coupling nuts to the mirror studs, and installed hex bolts through the fairing mount. Bingo, instant 2" extension for about five bucks!

Sure it looks terrible but the view is much improved. Cue the laughter...

now mix in some small diameter copper tubing, and you can call it a steampunk bike!! I agree that it does not look like it came from the factory that way, but there is just something about the cheap DIY mods that I like!?!

I dunno, some rubber or heatshrink tubing and that wouldn't look TOO bad...

I like that idea as a temp fix until my new mirrors get in.. So, I decited to go get the couplers to do that....There is not a metric coupler nut to be had here in Orange City florida....
I guess I`ll have to wait for the mirrors after all.. Smiley

I did essentially the same thing when I made my spacers except that I hid it in a 1 inch aluminum shell shaped to the contour of the mirror base. I had to order the couplings from McMaster-Carr to get the metric ones.

Cool idea, Commuter!
I made a delrin spacer with the same cross-section as the mirror base, threaded some aluminum tubing to couple the bolts, and painted it black.  I wish I'd found metric couplers, I would have saved all that effort.........

Anyone happen to know what the diameter/thread pitch necessary for the couplers is?  I'm not exactly thrilled about my ability to find the metric part locally, would be easier if I knew what to order...

Thanks!

For the record (from testing at local hardware store), it appears the bolts are 6mm (M6)x1.00 size/pitch.  I ended up going the McMaster-Carr route as well, will post pics when I get the whole rig mounted up.
