oh, and sanger was saying this new shield was noisier.  that would have to do with the fact that the air hitting the helmet is moving faster, and is more turbulent (like in my drawing).  he said ducking below it eliminated the noise - because he's out of the airflow and turbulence.  the air going over is concentrated, moving faster because it has less room to move by the bike, so it has to do it more quickly.  so, when the helmet is in that faster airflow, more wind noise will be present.

I have also wondered what the taller screens do to the drag , but I guess it's either the screen or the rider ,so I would think the screen would be the best as far as drag is concerned , but in the summer I do appreciate the air movement more .

btw sanger, your bike looks very sharp!  i'm sure that screen comes in handy given the weather you experience!

Thanks very much.

The screen is without doubt the BEST mod I've done to the bike. I've realised that since I've got it I've been more comfortable acellerating, riding at higher speeds (although I still don't like going above 100mph) and much less pressure on my arms, chest and back. It's a completely different bike with it on.

My second best mod is my mirrors as I can now see all the way behind me after about a week of tweaking the angles every time I ride. Smiley

PS I still think my pic rocks but I can see how the turbulance etc is better represented with your squiggly lines! Cheesy

but in the summer I do appreciate the air movement more .

thats for damn sure.  i'm DREADING the 95% relative humidity, 95 F summer weather thats just a month down the road.  why do i even live here?  this place is a sweatfest full of sucky roads.  what good is being able to ride year round if that's how its gonna be?

the screen does add a bit to drag from the bike, yet reduces the immediate impact of the air on the rider (by reducing frontal area exposed to the direct wind), reducing drag there.  i dunno how to quantify it, i suppose you could do some kind of mythbusters style test with each screen installed having the rider sit in the same position using the same cruising speed/throttle setting.  really the comfort is more important, so even if it did cost a little bit of gas mileage (which would mostly be noticeable at highway speeds where drag would be greatly increased vs. putting around town) it would be worth it.

sanger - conversely to your experience, higher speeds and accelerating (now i'm gonna sound like a hooligan) make riding my CBR more comfortable, as it helps take the weight off my wrists.  i know, it's not really a transportation bike so much as a race bike, but it's so fun to ride.

lol - i'm glad you liked my crude picture... i'm here to help

I basically meant that I feel more comfortable riding in a more extreme way because there's more protection from the wind pushing on me etc.

Overall I'm very pleased with it and would recommend it. Build quality is good and I love the curviness from the side. Only negative is it doesn't fit perfectly at the top but this may be because the top two screen bolts I'm using are different to the rest (no idea why).

Thank you SANGER_A2 for the detailed report on this windshield.

Can you elaborate on the above mentioned problem?  Looking at the pictures you posted, the screen appears to fit well.  Can you post a picture showing the misfit portion?

Thanks again.  I would like to install it on mine to minimize the windblast.

You can only see it when looking down from the top of the screen towards the windscreen. It's just a mm or 2 back from the fairing. Nothing major anyway that will cause any issues. I don't have the bike any more so can't elaborate. Got a sexy 2008 FZ6 now! Smiley

Thanks for the reply.

Congrats on your new FZ6.  Is the riding position more comfortable on the FZ6, compared to the EX500?  It looks to me that handle bar of the FZ6 is somewhat higher.

MASSIVELY more comfortable than the EX in stock. I did touring on both and much prefer the FZ6 stock. Except for the seat. I improved on the original design now though! Smiley I've shaved and added gel to the seat, which helped. I've also added hih renthals and bar risers to the stock bars and now it's like sitting on a cruiser. Perfect for going all day.
