I hit 105 on a Kawasaki ZX11, at age 70. I still had another gear to go!! It was soooooooo easy to crack 100 on the ZX, and that was when (and why) I traded in the ZX on my (current) EX500. I've only taken the EX to 80, and that's OK with me.

I hit 160 on my 94 zx11 last weekend and was only in 5th gear. And on the low side of that. My zx11 with a stage 3 jet kit is honestly one of the fastest bikes ive ever seen/or rode. It wasnt the fastest landmachine for a while for no reason.

Speedo said 165 on a tweaked 1987 Yamaha Genesis FZ700 in 1987, on a newly paved road at 5am. I used to do it every night on my way home from work.  Grin

Speedo on my 500r said 125 or so and was a little scary, you realize real quick the EX is not built to do 125.  Undecided

1 month and 1 day later, Zombie thread revival!

I've gotten to about 8. 8km/h that is. I was moving my 500r into position for an oil change and chain lube. I refuse to go any higher without MSF.

Around 170 on a '86 VMax back in 1987. My speed testing days are over.  45 takes a lot longer to heal than 20.

Good man. I tried that and ended up dropping my bike when I dumped the clutch.

I intentionally dumped the clutch and then started it up and shifted from neutral into first with no clutch afterwards all while holding in the front brake. I wanted to see what a stall feels like, less panic when it  happens later on... all I gotta say about it is that this Ninja 500 has some kick to it when it stalls  Wink

170 indicated on slightly modded 919rr so probably 150 lol fireblade optimism
120 indicated on a naked ex500,  years back when I was 14 and 120lbs.

125-130 or so on my EX500. 150-160 on a triumph daytona 955i.

Speed doesn't raelly matter to me now. I enjoy going fast once in awhile, but not through traffic or anything.

Where's the category for I don't know cause either the speedo didn't work or the speed exceeded the speedo??
Well since I have been riding the EX now and the Speedo works albeit with the known issue of it being slightly off I was a hair over 110 is the fastest I have been on it.  She will probably do 120 but this will max her out.

I've gotten her to 123 on a GPS and speed trap. Thats with risking the crankshaft at 11K rpms. I don't think she'll get much higher then that.

ive hit 140 on the speedo of my ex500 with my stock gears just under 130 with my set 16/48 set. back when i was young and dumb and didnt have the kids i owned a 1430 bigbore busa with a 3ft extended swingarm and a baby bottle of nitrous. it ran high 7s and ive hit 255 on gps with that. when you go that fast the dotted line turns solid, you pass light posts like their a pickett fence and miles markers like their light posts its super fun

165 indicated on my Top Gun Ninja 900 near Nashville...   felt like someone was standing on my shoulders trying to rip my helmet off.

But an estimated 135 on an EX500... racing at Road Atlanta, and coming out of turn 7, I drafted a 600 supersport bike all the way down the back straight.  So whatever HIS top speed was, we were doing it.

It was actually scary, with the EX doing the shake, rattle, and roll thing... I started imagining all the bolts vibrating loose. and it way faster down the straight than any of my other laps.
I tried to repeat it, but couldn't get the timing just right.

you guys make me lol. I dont care if you were drafting behind an F16....theres Zero chance of an EX 500 hitting 135 mph...let alone 140. Keep em coming...very entertaining. And I thought my 4 year old niece told some tall tales...

See the key word in there??   "Estimated" not indicated, or GPS.
But it was a 600 race bike and it was at full throttle, and I was hanging on for dear life inches behind it all the way down the back straight.
Before they put in the bus stop to slow down the back straight speeds, bikes hit their top speed every lap, and THEN went downhill for a little more speed.
And it was WAY faster than my EX ever went before that lap, or since then.

So what do you think?  Do you think the 600 ran slower down that straight because I was drafting it?
Or do you think the 600 was so slow that it just couldn't get away from me?
Or do you think it's totally impossible for a slower bike to keep up with a faster one by drafting?

What exactly is it you're saying??
