How to avoid the Ban Hammer

How to avoid being banned from

This is a friendly forum. We all like it here. There is a reason why we have a steady following of people who stick around long after selling their EX500s. Some of our active members have never owned one!
Weíve attracted a strong following because of how friendly our members act towards each other, and how welcoming we are to new members.

But, as with many forums, we appear to be ďgrowing up.ĒÖ and itís only been 3 years!

That is to say, some of us are becoming set in our ways, a little bit crotchety, and the general tone of the forum has taken an unpleasant feel for some. Simple questions have turned into flame wars and political rants, which in turn have created personal grudges between members. We have tried to contain it to a special sub-forum, but much to our dismay the hostilities have spilled over to much of the forum.

The moderation team has tried to handle these problems as gently and diplomatically as possible. We donít want to ban anybody, but sometimes a temporary suspension is necessary to let the fires burn out on their own, so to speak.

Below, you will find some guidelines and general stages of the moderation process to avoid or understand a temporary suspension (or Full Ban). This post is every single member of the boardís official first warning.

First infraction: A moderator gives you a friendly warning, and suggests how to correct your mistake.
Second infraction: A moderator gives you a less friendly warning, and suggests you shape up immediately.
Third infraction: Without warning or discussion, we may (at our discretion) issue a suspension of account, severity of our choosing (repeat offenders are subject to a permanent suspension of account).

Here are some guidelines to consider:

Sarcasm: Understand that sarcasm is very hard to read. Donít use it unless you KNOW how the reader will take it.

Choose your words carefully (sensitivity). Realize that you may be insulting or demeaning another person or group of people because of what you say, even if you donít think itís all that bad. All it takes is ONE WORD.

ďIf you canít say something nice, donít say anything at all.Ē If youíve ever watched Disneyís Movie ďBambiĒ, Thumperís mother was a very smart lady. Take this to heart. Apply it here on the forum, and maybe in life, and youíll go places! Thereís no need to get nasty for disagreeing with someone. If you canít respond without some lip, we highly suggest you say nothing at all.

We all get stressed out from time to time. Itís our belief that stress is a major catalyst in these firefights between members. We all lead busy lives, and in times such as these, itís good to have a place to vent, but donít take it out on other people, itís not their fault youíre having a bad day. When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.

So be respectful. Be courteous. Be responsible.

If you cannot conduct yourself in a respectable manner, you will not so much be asked to leave, but rather you will be shown the door and it will be locked behind you.

So, youíve all been warned. Lets all play nice. Knightslugger and Royson really do love ya.

*Group hug
