Engine Oil

Which oil brand do you use for your bike? Whether it be 10W-40 , 50 or 20W-50 the choice is up to you.

10W-40,50 = cooler climate
20W-50 = hotter climates

Re: Engine Oil

Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w40.

It is so often recommended, it is fairly economical, it is easily obtained at places like WalMart, and I like the results so much, I barely ever look at any oil threads anymore. This one might be the first in a while. But was a sticky, so it's important right? [/color]

Re: Engine Oil

Just swapped up my castrol 10w-40 with Rotella 5w-40 ... nvr going back to castrol ... good brand but, rotella is much smoother, and warms up quicker.

Re: Engine Oil

Where's ROYAL PURPLE?

My observation changing from royal purple to rotella synthetic is a normal idle speed, with royal purple my bike idled at about 1400 & when I changed to rotella it went back down to 1200,

I'm sure you can guess what brand I'll be using in the future,

Re: Engine Oil

Here's the real deal on engine oil....change it often!!! That is the most important key here people. Type, brand, color, packaging etc. is all just personal preference really. If you change your oil often enough it really doesnt matter. If you put typical miles on your bike, change the oil per mfg. suggestion. If your out every night burning up the streets and spinning the rpm guage constantly just because you like the sound of your own bike (and who hasn't/doesn't) then you should probably change it sooner. I like to ride hard almost always! I feel oil change every 500-750 miles is necessary for me, depending on just how hard I have been riding. If your hard on your machine, treat it with some TLC afterwards and it will last you a lifetime!

Re: Engine Oil

I think my rotela 15w 40 is a bit over kill and is bogging my bike down, I am not sure but I think I can feel it in the force.

Re: Engine Oil

I just put in $3.50/litre .... motomaster 10W-40 stuff .... lol runs like a charm. That doubled with a new oil filter ($3) = ~$15

Re: Engine Oil

Amsoil for me.

but that could change. Silkolene is a CCS sponsor so i'd use that if i was top 5.

Re: Engine Oil

I used amsoil synthetic 20-50. At first I complained it was a little too thick but now I'm seeing a difference with better heat dissipation in the 90 degree weather here vs the rotella. Frictionwise it makes no feelable difference but obvious better heat dissipation with amsoil. I have 2 running, tuned ex500s to compare now.

OK, I need some schooling here; Motomaster motorcycle oil is $4.47/L and the filter (Fram) is $9.99. Where do you get yours for so little?

canadian tire and walmart. A fram filter (walmart) is only 3 dollars... same with motomaster filters(canadian tire). The Frame Heavy duty filters are 10$ and there is one other for 6$. As for the oil, I picked mine up for 3.50 each/L @ canadian tire
