Thumbs up I bought Psycrow's '87 gen-1 Donor bike as a restoration project

Hey Everyone!

Obligatory "new to the forums" introduction. I've never owned a bike but always wanted one. I've got some automotive mechanical experience but nothing directly related to motorcycles as of yet.

I'm sure some of you know your fellow user Psycrow. I was lucky enough to meet him recently and purchase the bike he originally bought as a donor bike for one of his builds but ended up not needing.

He pointed me to the forums to meet some other folks so I could ask for advice when needed but he has also offered to help me along the way, should I need it. After seeing some of his other posts I'm pretty stoked to have met a fella like him who clearly knows what he is doing. I'd be happy if mine came out even close to the quality he was able to achieve.

Nice to meet you all! I look forward to asking lots of ridiculous questions but most of all I look forward to the engine rebuild so I can go for my first ride.

I plan to document the entire project in video and pictures. Might even end up on youtube some day if you guys care to take a look.

I would post pics or link to his pictures of the bike but as a new account I cannot yet.

Cheers friends!

Edit: unsure if pictures actually posted anyway even though I got a message saying I couldn't, I see them on my end.

Welcome Yotts!

Yes, you've come to the right place...these members know EVERYTHING about the EX500's!

As for the motorcycle, you have a great project ahead of you and I think it's going to be a fun journey. I learned a ton on this forum and with this particular motorcycle line. Most maintenance is relatively easy and basic. Anything beyond that - you have the forum! Heed what the members advise, trust me, they KNOW!

Finally, once you get her going it's one of the most enjoyable bikes I've ever ridden!!! And I've owned everything from 250cc - 1800cc's. The EX500 is definitely in the top 3 for most "fun" motorcycle's I've ever owned!!!

Hi and welcome!

Looks like complete bike? Does it run? Just needs some clean-up?

It does technically run but there is a mean knock in the engine so i'm in the process of tearing it down to find what is causing it. Once i'm sure it will run without issue i'll be pulling everything for body work and paint, then reassembly, then get my bike licence, then ride. (first bike ever, but I wanted a project).
