I leaned gently on the throttle, trying to crack it open as smoothly as possible. The pitch of the engine changes but I didn't feel any thrust, perfect. I opened the throttle more and more, as much as I dared so as not to break the rear tire loose. Standing the bike up, I reached WOT for a split second before I slammed onto the brakes.
It's only a figure-8 exercise, I'm doing like 20km/h.
The bike falls into the left-hand corner, as it has many times before. I dial up the lean angle with the rear brake, letting the steering react to the bike and choose it's own angle without any rider input.
Cornering force pulls me straight down into the seat, as I perform this low-speed U-turn at full lean. My left shoe scrapes the ground. I start to lean on the throttle, looking for that float-y feeling of no engine brake and no deceleration, the slack in the chain.
FULL STEERING LOCK!!!! OH GAWD!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!
Panic! I need to accelerate to straighten out the bike.
MORE PANIC!!! PULL THE CLUTCH ALL THE WAY IN!!! NO, WHY DID I DO THAT
Put my foot down and try to lift the bike with my bare hands, haha, like an idiot.
We're going down now. Keep my grip on the clutch, lets not stall the engine. (Is that the right thing to do?)
I fall on my left hip and roll onto my back, feet in the air, hand on clutch, ego in gutter.
So now I flip the killswitch and pick the bike up. There's a new scratch on the fairing, and a scratch on the bar end. Bike starts right back up like nothing ever happened.
I burp the filter and carry on Moto Gymkhana-ing the afternoon away. (Thank you FOG and Knightslugger for your expertise. Thank you EX-500.com)
TLDR: I laid the bike down for the first time. It didn't mind. Back on the horse and kept practicing. This website and its contributors are the best.
