Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

another question....
what is the difference between a flywheel with the code on his back:

1987 model: GP9331 6L
1991 model: GP9331 2B

They look absolutly the same...

Anyone?

you are the man fog... iv been calling salvage yards all over the country today looking for a 2nd gen flywheel and everyone that iv talked to iv had to argue that i can modify it to work, but they keep saying that the 2nd gens won't work lol cheapest I found was $150...are the flywheels from the bikes you listed the same as the 1st gen or 2nd? and are there certain years of the bikes?
Does anyone know any more information about this as im in the process of trying to replace mine and having a hard time finding a gen 2 flywheel so if i can broaden my options it would help, specificaly about the above question that is quoted would help alot if anyone knows. Thanks

Anyone know if a flywheel off a ER5 1999 will work with a gpz 500 once the modification is done?

Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

ok so based on what your saying it should work, it is a 1993 GPZ and a 1999 ER5, i'll go ahead and buy it then if your sure, asking because i remember someone saying it needs to be a similar year to the original.

Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

I have a problem.
The rotor from the 1998 ER 500 won't fit on my gpz 500 s 1992.
Here are some photos.
Anyone got an idea what is the problem?

Do i need the engine cover to from the ER?Is it larger?
Help!

Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

Have you altered the triggers as per this thread? if so then you need to use the older engines cover for the two pickups in it .but the covers are the same. You may not have fitted the wheel properly/Did you line up the key ?
I went through a lot of trouble to write this How to. You have evidently not read it .
Please go to the top and start over.

Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

yes i did it exactly how you wrote it in the pdf file: how to modify(....)
The problem is the size, not the functionality. It wont fit
You can see in the photo that the two flywheels are diferent in size.

So i have to use the engine cover from the 1998 Er5?

Thanx

Yes if that cover fits, use it. but be sure you fit the two pickups into it first.

Re: How to modify a 2nd Gen flywheel for a 1st gen bike (by FOG)

Its the wrong thickness flywheel. Sell it on ebay and buy the right one. There's no such thing as an extended generator cover. Or an extension ring for a gen cover.
