Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

I have made a continuation to this post for any California EX500 owner which combines this and documents removal of the Evaporative Emission Control System

It will be located here: https://www.ex-500.com/index.php/topic,40722.0.html

Documented to the best of my ability

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

I would just like to throw in my two cents on this kit.
Its very well made. I work in a machine shop at my school, so i can tell when items are well made. This kit is laser cut, and as such it turned out really nicely. It includes everything you need (but i would encourage you to get the gasket kit). It only takes a couple of minutes to install, and makes a lot more room under the tank, and cuts out a bit of weight. Also if your PAIR hoses are damaged like mine were it makes the bike run better as well.
I would strongly encourage anyone thinking about getting this kit to purchase it.
Also shipping was really quick.
Thanks

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

Just ordered one.

Out of curiosity would the blocked vacuum line on the right carb, and the open(connected to fuel petcock) line on the left carb cause any effect to unsync the carbs after this kit is applied?

1990 EX500-A4 $450 with included field mice. FOG Airbox, PAIR Removal, Progressive Springs, 36W LED Aux Lights, BikeMaster LED Mirrors.

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

Unless there is a leaked both always were and still are blocked. The right is blocked by the replacement cap and the left is blocked by the fuel valve diaphragm.

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

hello all,

What I did was simply disconnect the PAIR thing from the airbox, the right carb vaccum and the 2 intakes on the valve cover.

Then I simply put clear tape on the airbox hole, plugged the right carb vaccum hose with zipties and connected the 2 PAIR intakes together (top of valve cover) with a single hose (from this same PAIR system). Do you guys see anything that could go wrong with this setup ? possible leaks ?...

thanks !

No that fine except the main reason for removing the "Pair System" is for cleaner access. Your method is only half as good.

Agreed. The only thing that's left in the way is the big rubber hose which takes 4 and a half seconds to remove. Anything that costs more than $ 0.04 to plug these 2 PAIR intakes is a waste of my money based on my hourly income :P

I did the same thing, after about a month the valves started clattering very loudly as they fought each other thru the single hose. I put everything back on. You could plug the holes with dowels or get the block off plates or pull the valves out and then put the one hose on or seal the valves together with glue so the reeds won't move anymore. But what you've done is gonna make bad noises....

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

In the process of removing the pair system I came across an issue. The vacuum tube from the right carb is connected to the left carb. Do I leave that the way it is or do I block both vacuum tubes.

You mean the vacuum nipples from both carb intakes are connected to each other with a single vacuum tube?

The nipple on the right side should be capped.
The one on left side should be routed to apply vacuum to the diaphragm in the petcock.
Assuming you have a stock petcock. If you have a manual petcock only then yes, both vacuum nipples should be capped.

Re: Lamp One Designs - PAIR Removal Kit

Not a stock petcock. There is only a gas line on it. They bridged the vacuum ports together. Would leaving them bridged have any negative effects?

I am from Sydney and I have tried to order a kit via the lamp one website. Upon adding my kit to the cart, I am unable to have the kit shipped to me. I then sent an email to lamp one, but that was three days ago and I have not heard back.

Ordered mine to Ontario Canada. It was very speedy, and Todd was great to deal with. Sent an email, speedy reply and shipping.

Everything was installed on Wednesday. Has solved my decel exhaust pop when coasting to a light.

White spots all over are the coolant that was leaking out the o-ring from the top of the head, those are also fixed.
