Author names on Wiki pages

Hey all. Personally, in the past, whenever I've written a Wiki article, I've written my name at the bottom, along with a link to the feedback page. This way, people know who to ask specific questions about the articles. And I don't mind letting people know that I put in lots of hours to help write the wiki, either. Lately, various people have been making editorial changes to the wiki, and for the most part I agree wholeheartedly with the stuff that has been changed/edited/improved. On this one, though, I'm kind of torn.

What do you guys think?

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

I though that wiki made notes on who edited what, or is this not like the "real" wikipedia?

I would think it would make sense if the editors could show exactly what they edited.

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

the original author deserves the credit, and should have their name listed.

Yeah, there's a log for each article where it says explicitly who did what and when. But the casual viewer never sees the history page. So I think the author's name should appear on the actual article as well.

I say include author name. Anybody who puts time into creating something deserves credit.

It may be wise to also have the person who then modifies the article to put a note into the actual article saying who modified it.

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

if someone really cares who wrote something, they can click the history page and see. same with who modified it... its all in the history, you can see who changed it and exactly what changes they made.

but i dont really care either way. im not too concerned about the ex500 wiki being academically correct or anything

and we dont want to get too nuts with the rules or else it will end up a steaming pile of crap like wikipedia.

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

If someone wants credit they can throw their name on the bottom right? Just leave it at that. If its already tracked in the history page then thats good enough, anybody real curious will figure it out.

Anybody looking for fame can go ahead and sign it.

I think that we should allow the author's name to be added, but it should be up to that author's discretion on whether or not they want it added. If they don't want their name on it for some reason, don't force it but if they want credit then they deserve it, it doesn't make the page look bad.

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

I am not actually on the forum enough to recognize someone's name when i see it. I deleted his name off his pages because I thought it was a link that didn't link anywhere. I think it is fine for the author to have their name on their pages as long as its mostly there work. If someone just edits a page I don't think that warrants them putting there name on the article too. I edited most of the pages, but that doesn't make the the author.

Re: Author names on Wiki pages

I don't care, put their name on it or not doesn't bother me, I'm just going to sit back and wait for the verbal fighting to start and the plagiarism complaints to start rolling in
