Re: easy fuel filter ALTERNATIVE....YES!

So a couple things I have read so far in the posts about inline fuel filter install:

1. oem in-line filter install on carb rail is only relevant to model years 2000 or later (PN 49019-1085)
2. mod to fuel line (install inline fuel filter in fuel hose) is solution for model years 1999 and earlier

Question:

Is the above true? I am a new rider and just bought a 1995 Kawi as my first bike. I took it in for an inspection and the mechanic's report had a recommendation for installing an inline fuel filter. The carb rail install sounds easier but before I go out and purchase I want to make sure this is possible. (I already had my tank off to do this but the shop gave me was a 3/16" filter to mod the line (PN - 004-730) which we discovered did not fit. :S ) So, if anyone can provide some guidance/wisdom of the above and help me out that I would be most grateful. Also, can any one recommend a particular brand? I need a 1/4" fit.

Thanks!

Re: easy fuel filter ALTERNATIVE....YES!

Question time,

I noticed recently that the part # differs on the newer ninja 250, from the one we've been using for many years now.

My question is there any difference between them at all?

Newer Ninja 250 #

Vs the standard for us

REVELATION! the Kaw rail filter is interchangeable with the Mikuni version. Replaced my 22 year old original ...I'm now running the Kaw version on my Ducati BSDT38 carb inlet rail. I've used it in other carb applications too.

Its possible its manufactured by an outside vendor and sourced by various OEM's. I believe Yamaha used it on early to mid 90's Mikuni carbed models, Ducati too. Suzuki in at least some of their injected models, various Kawasaki ZZR/ZX's.

Just ordered a set from partzilla after reading through this whole thread. Hard to find in Canada at a fair price - F9 wants $15 each for them!

FWIW there are good pictures of the part on their site. Sorry can't post a link, am newb!

If any doubters out there...here's a pic of a working rail filter from a 250 ninja.....look at the pile of fine, sand-like contaminants this thing prevented from going further in.

Undeniable proof these rail filters flat out WORK.
