Its no secret that how carbs are exposed to atmosphere in their lifetime (long term outdoor vs indoor storage) is directly correlated to permanent damage and therefore how they react to intense cleaning procedures.
Exposure to moisture or water (bottom of bowls for example, or consistent wet bodies) will leave evidence of corrosion and permanent staining. Factor extreme swings in temps, humidity, frequency of actual running, fuel quality, use of stabilizer treatment (or not)....there is rarely a "gold standard" in 20+ year old carbs, though I must say this particular set is coming out mint.
Brass can be restored for the most part, but even there, permanent scarring can occur. Pictured are his original jets after treatments. I disagree with certain Ducati forum members to automatically replace ALL jets...these are restored as new and cleared to factory spec....thus saving the owner further, needless expense.
They'd be done already...but dumb on my part to forget to reorder Suzuki rail seals for these Mikuni's....I've ordered multiple sets to keep in stock for future use.
And Sean...his Y-2 needle jets are NOT ovaled. Can't explain, perhaps a prior owner previously replaced them?
