To much gas

I have a 01 Kawasaki ex500 that I got off a guy cheap the bike was a part some getting home and put it back together try to start it it run but gas started running everywhere it was coming out of the carburetors so I took them off clean them put in a carb kit some of it put it back together same problem did some research found out the petcock was missing the little spring witch was letting some gas through all the time found a little spring not the right one but seams to work with a little vacuum it let gas throw stops vacuum gas stops flowing put everything back together same problem flooding gas running out the back of carburetors

The float needles in the carbs are not seating.

The float needles need to move smoothly. When you say you adjusted them, are you sure you are talking about the float needles, and not the pilot screws?

I read it in a manual and said if carbs start leaking gas to ajust the float and needle it said to bend over the needle rest on the flow so they actually go down to the seat did this then I also did them a little more so they barely moved both sides and I still have the same problem

Did you adjust the float height to 17mm?
Even if the float height is correct, it is still possible for the float needle to leak. Probably need new float needles and a carb clean.

OK, maybe you didn't get a good rebuild kit. One thing is for sure, those float needles should operate up and down smoothly. The float seats could possibly need to be addressed also.
When you adjusted the float height, did you set it at 17mm?

I notice your not responding to my question on what the float height is. No disrespect, but I have found in the past that when someone doesn't answer that type of question it turns out that they don't know. The only way adjusting the float height would correct the excess fuel, would be if the float height was to low to begin with. A low float height means a high fuel level. The highest probability of the excess fuel is the float seats are either not cleaned or they are damaged. Did you do anything to address the seats? Maybe taking a half a Q-tip and using an abrasive material and a drill to clean them? That could possibly distort them and ruin them for good.
Have you considered getting a professional to look at them?
That is going to be your easiest path to get them right.
We have the best carb man right here on this forum site. If you get in touch with ducatiman he can fix you up, and for a very reasonable price.

You may or may not have fixed the petcock, clearly your having carb problems (possibly several).

Inspect the inside of the gas tank for rust also.

I did mean to not answer your question and no I didn’t set at 17mm but will today because after I put in the new needles and still did the same thing but the book I have on it doesn’t give you Measurements just tell you what to do and I only spray carb cleaner in the seat part of carburetors before putting in new needles and do you know how many turns the gas mixture screw needs

I guess you don't have an EX500 manual, but rather some kind of general manual. A manual specific to the EX500 will serve you much better. The gas mixture screws adjustment varies from bike to bike. Everything else is going to have to be fixed first, and then final mixture adjustments done with the bike fully warmed up and idling. But most members use 2.5 turns out as a starting point, before fine tuning.

Ok the same happened to me, I had a big struggle with this floats and needle. Turn ed out the neeedle on the left carb could not move properly, It would move when I look at it and when I did visual inspection it would look excetly the same as the right one but no, sometime would move, sometimes wouldnt.

I had to movee the needle a little bit and try and try again and now it seems to work.

So my advice get some water, take the bulbs off and deep the floats on water, the needle needs to travel freely!

Within my service float needle replacement is automatic. They are consumables and never intended for indefinite service. In time the viton tips deform and the tiny, internal float return springs at the top fatigue. Cheap enough to justify replacement.
Then comes wet testing to determine fuel levels, the 17mm float height is a starting point to get you close....but begs final tweak wet on the bench or stand or whatever your method.
During a refurb, wet testing also reveals any leakage anywhere....double duty.

These EX's are getting old...all seals within them (also consumables) need replacement as well. Now we get into full "rebuild" "refurb" "restoration" territory. 15-20 year old carbs are gonna have problems attached, to some degree. Unreasonable to expect them to last forever.
IMHO best to be proactive, "rebuild" using new consumables, setup properly and thus turn back the clock to zero. It can be done....and is on a routine basis. Planned maintenance done at your chosen time.

OR....wait for a leak, running issue, poor MPG, fuel stink....then forced to become "reactive". Of course, it'll happen at the worst time imaginable.

Rebuild = proactive
wait for an issue = reactive

Entirely your call.

My latest methods include nuclear powered machines, 22,000 PSI compressed air, dangerous chemicals long made illegal by the (US) EPA, mixed together in various combination.

Effective stuff but causes extreme hair loss, occasional loss of vision, twitching and body shakes, E.D. , hot and cold spells, itching of certain body (unmentionable) areas, and *too much gas* (see what I did there?) followed by extreme diarrhea (no big deal, its only occasional, usually 2-3-4AM).

Hey, whatever it takes, right?
