You need to f'n chill. It's called CONTEXT. Might wanna look that up.

You're talking top end, though. I am really interested in bottom end how the bikes would compare, on say, 1/4 mile? I haven't seen any 0-60 specs on the DRZsm, either.

This is the intelligent response I was looking for in the first place, that would have avoided all this. As opposed to "kick an EXs butt", it is within context. Now I'm done.

The "intelligent" response? Nice way to attempt to discredit someone. However, how many folks are doing full out, top end runs to compare bikes in the local context? Not too many. It would make sense then, that reference would be made to short runs, such as 1/4 mile straights. Moreover, if the DRZsm got the Ninja off the bat, while the Ninja has a better top end, it would still need to 'catch up' to the DRZ in the long run... but that should go without saying.

Dr is geared for dirt, ninja is geared for street. if you put sdirt appropriate sprokets on the ninja it might be a different story all together. they are 2 different animals altogether. Storm I am not bashing your bike. but i rode one and I just dont like em. Simple as that. Probally not a bad bike, but FELT very cheap to me. And ass to that to the fact that I hate thumpers and well....

So now that we have determined that I STILL DONT LIKE THE DRZ. Can we get back on topic.

I have searched all over for a daul sport ninja, all I have found is a 2002 with the chin spoiler remoced and knobby tires.

Re: Anyone ever turned a 500R into a dual sport???

post a pic. I'm wanting to do this as well as turn a dirt bike into a street machine. I think Yamaha has a conversion kit for the 426 dirt bike, I'll try to find a pic..

and sorry storm, I love little thumpers, but I am pretty sure the race between a DRZsm and a EX would be over as soon as the EX hit 7k in first gear... thats pretty quick..

yesterday dont mean shit! tomorrow is the day you have to face!<br />R.I.P BAM BAM, Conrad and Soladad.

in ohio, to turn a dirtbike to a streetbike, you do one thing.

go to the DMV and request a "change of body type" form. change it from offroad to "motorcycle"

when you sign the form, you affirm that your bike meets all applicable laws. which means headlight, tail light, turn signals, a horn and a mirror.

from looking on google, it seems that DRZ runs mid to low 14 @ around 80 mph. people on here were running their 500s at mid to low 13s at around 100. ricky gadson could probably get em both a little quicker...

another thing i found, that i would agree with:

The idea of asking how fast a DRZ does a quarter is like wondering how well a 10R takes the whoops.

Storm started this by saying her DRZ would stomp and Ex500 and that just not the case. All the internet searching tells us otherwise.

Anyhow anyone have that pic of the dual sport ninja?

Re: Anyone ever turned a 500R into a dual sport???

I am NOT an aprilla guy . Not that they are bad machines, But getting parts here in the US sucks. I was thining one of the big 4. I dont know right now anyhow. I just painted the ninja last night so I am going to ride it for now. Got the new tires on the FJR yesterday for my trip coming up next sunday to Oklahoma. So for right now I am just going to ride it.

Re: Anyone ever turned a 500R into a dual sport???

Convert your 500R for dual sport use in 4 easy steps:
1. Sell your current bike (and car and home.)
2. Move to Europe, (or Australia, Asia, South America, Africa, or any other place that doesn't impose ridiculous tariffs to promote Harley Davidson Motor Company)
3. Buy a KLE500 (see below)
4. Be happy (and ride safely.)

I think this was the last year for the KLE world wide. Too bad. I would have liked to look at it.

Does it have a variant of the Ninja 500 engine? And I guess now that I think about it, is it as well received as our bike?

Re: Anyone ever turned a 500R into a dual sport???

I think I found a better soultion with alot less work, I had forgotten about a honda transalp. Found one with low miles for a great price. Need to sell a bike before I add another one or I might end up sleeping in the shop with them.
