Funny question -starting

I always wondered why my bike sometimes (this can be 1 in a month,1 in a 6 months per season) make loud grinding noise when starting? Its not something new but always had that happens once maybe in a few months.

I read its starter clutch, making this sound. Also what cause that to happen- weaker battery, hot engine, maybe some particular position of the pistons when you shut the engine or something else?

Only the starter clutch. It depends on a bit of friction to engage, sometimes it slips a bit. Are you using synthetic oil?
If so dump it

Im usually using semi synt. Now Im using some ELF 10-50W, its not full syntetic it says :

They also have this:

Which is a bit cheaper and different SAE. I wanted some 50 cuz of the hot summer. Upper one is synt technology and this one synth based, dunno difference.

Amazon started selling Spectro4 non-synthetic. I would see if they will ship it to you. Ebay also.

Im buying oil here in my country no need for shipping. Best oil for EX that I tried is FUSCH Silkolene, but its double price of this ELF. French oil.

Ipone was ok.

Bardahl, I was not happy.

All were 15-50w semi synt.

Also here we have Motul, Bel ray, Castrol, some domestic oils and probably few more less known.

Dont have Rotella here for example.

The starter clutch will sometimes make that noise regardless of what brand, weight, or type of oil you run. I have had a variety of synthetic, semi-synthetic and conventional oils in my engines and they have all done it on occasion. It's just the way these are. I am currently running Rotella T4, which is a conventional oil, and it did it to me just yesterday. It's not a big deal, don't lose any sleep over it.

You can help it. Take it apart and polish the inside of the drum with 60 grit energy.
