I had left the petcock in the "on" position, yes. I was under the impression that the carbs only pull vacuum when the bike is running. Petcock on or off, they shouldn't be letting fuel into the cylinders...right? You'll have to forgive me if this is a stupid question-lifelong dirt rider here, this EX was my first street bike in 25 years. I've done all of the work on all of my off-road bikes, including full motor rebuilds. I've had to rebuild the carbs on nearly every used bike I've bought, never had this issue in any of them-even if the petcock was left on indefinitely. ??

Unfortunately the seats are pressed into the bodies, non-replaceable. I'm at your service if need be.

Imposing Will Are the float needle seats replaceable on the EX carbs? If so, does anyone know where to get them? I have an '08 with 404 actual miles on it (228 when I bought it). It sat for nine years before I bought it, with gas in it. I had to clean the varnish out of the tank, replace the petcock with a new OEM (both feed tubes were gone), and clean/rebuild carbs (aftermarket kit). Bike ran great after I did the work, but if I left the petcock on...it dumped fuel into the crankcase. I got lucky and didn't hydrolock it, cleaned/rebuilt carbs again...still doing it. Also have to replace oil pan gasket now, it's leaking (not a big deal, but annoying). I did adjust the floats, I'm just reasonably sure that the float needle in the left carb isn't seating properly. I did the Qtip/toothpaste polishing method on the float valve seats, didn't help. Going to give it one more try, but I'm getting frustrated. Any help would be appreciated-may just have to bite the bullet and send the carbs off. I bought an '11 VStrom shortly after I bought the EX, and I'm leaning toward selling the EX after I fix it. Just hate to throw money at something to sell it, but I can't sell it screwed up in good conscience-and the bike is practically a brand-new 2008. Thanks.

ducatiman History has shown stock jetting (coupled with actual clear circuits and proper setup) has been effective here on EX. Squatting in the driveway, using a can and a toothbrush, just doesn't cut the mustard.

Dropping down 1 size in the main jet has proven effective for high altitude.

Jet kits are dissuaded, the adjustable nature compels most folks to overfueling (more fuel is better) and err on the "wet side".

My chosen oring sizes and composition have also had a good track record over some years now.
My cleaning methods and equipment have improved immensely.

Many years ago I did a couple of sets for 2 young members on EX forum here as a favor. One (@cali4niaman) was having leakage out the intake bell, the other (@mangosmoothie) was having mid range hiccups, if memory serves me correct. Both were successfully corrected and shipped back home for a now laughable fee.

But they served as the inspiration for Custom Carb Services, which has grown over the years.

I was an Authorized vendor here up till a year ago...a very serious health issue forced me to rescind it.....As I've recovered, I'm about to reactivate. Though this will be covered fully in another post very soon within the Vendor section.

Hey, check my website for examples of other (not EX) work and a ton of feedback and contact info.

If you have a specific request for chosen components or special needs used within my service, fire away, get in contact. Thats where the "Custom" comes in.

bhearts do you ever jet these for specific ethanol mixtures, or do you use higher percentage ethanol rated gaskets?

ducatiman Due to apparent demand, Iím now stocking smaller mains for high altitude needs, along with both main and pilots in standard size. Get a carb kit plus replace your jets if needed.... shipping entirely on me.....CONUS only though.
8-19-2018 11:17 AM
ducatiman drop your mains to a size 128

netopalis007 Hi Ducatiman, Do you jet for altitude at all? I live in Denver right at a mile high... The bike that once ran well in Kansas now needs a clean and some jets!

Edit: I will also be installing a K&N air filter and the FOG mod.

Custom Carb Service Every now and then, a carb set reacts very well to the machines...looking near factory fresh outside and in. This #56 is one of those. In addition, I equipped these with brand new diaphragm rubbers. Stock jetting, all new consumables, stainless hardware, Kaw rail filter.....the works. And wet tested perfect. These will be fine runners with an exceptional service life. Fit all years, Gen 1 and 2.

SOLD

Custom Carb Service refurbed carbset #55 now available. Not the prettiest, but fully functional. Missing the choke cable bracket on the RH carb...just swap over from your existing carbs. Otherwise stock jetting....plug and play. A gut shot added while still split..note factory clean jets, mixing chambers and innards are as immaculate.

SOLD

ducatiman Thanks, K-wop. Frankly I wasn't aware forum rules for new folk have become so rigid.

Good reason for new folk to get in here, participate and post away! Don't be shy!
