yes it's basically the same engine. it will drop straight however the 1990 is a gen 1 so has to be modified to work in a gen 2 machine. because the electrics are up graded.
simple enough though. swap the CCT over from the 2009 (it's a better design) swap over the flywheel from the 2009 to the 1990. but keep the stator triggers and outer fly wheel case off the 2009. your basically good to go.
do the valve clearances before fitting the engine, (it's easier to do that way) there some other minor difference but nothing to stop it working all ancillaries like carbs. exhaust. and other stuff is a straight swap over.
Do not worry if it pops out of second gear when slowing down. Gen1 trannies do that. If you are really adventurous, you can flip it upside down and swap the trannies over. Then it will be basically bulletproof.
What's up with the current motor? Is it fragged? Also, what about that gen1 motor? If it is very low (under 10K or so) miles, then it is probably sound.
