My wife, my bride of 23 years, my partner and best friend turned 50 last week. She does so much for me, supports me and puts up with my motorcycle habit without complaint. It was time that I did something in return.

She told me she always wanted to go see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. So to that end, I packed her off to NYC last week Tuesday to go see Phantom of the Opera. I got her and her mom ticket front row, center on the first mezzanine. That way, there was no one in front of them to block their view of the stage.

I picked her and her mom up at San Francisco Airport on Saturday, and took them to a steak dinner at a local steak house. She got to see alot of Manhatten; Rockefeller Center, World Trade Center site, the Occulus, Empire State building, Statue of Liberty....all the tourist things.

Sunday we went to the installation where I work and went to the base exchange. I'd been there earlier in the week and talked at length with the Samsung rep about a new TV. We'd been there before, and talked to the same guy. My wife has really wanted a curved screen Samsung. She'd kinda had her heart set on one.

They quit making the one we'd originally wanted but had another version of it on display. I asked the rep about the one we originally wanted but he said they didn't have one anymore. Then he says, I have one Q-LED left in the warehouse. Game changer.

When we looked at the RU8000 previously, the Q-LED was out of our budget at $2500. The flat screen version of the 65" RU8000 was on sale at $999 and on display when I'd been there previously. Now he tells me they're selling the 65" Q7C for the same price. Done deal. Can I pick it up Sunday?

So, yesterday my wife and I picked up this incredible TV for her birthday. I don't even wanna think about what I spent for her and her NYC trip, steak dinner AND a $1K TV but hell, she's worth it.

And now, I gotta start on my battered credit card and get that down to a manageable level...well, an acceptable one, it's already manageable. As a bonus, I got to watch this weekend's WSBK races on the new 65" 4K UHD TV.

Combined with the 4K firestick I use to stream the SBK feed, it was gloriously clear and sharp video. Amazing what happened in the 15 years since my last TV was made. A 40 inch screen was pretty big back then.....sean

I saw Phantom of the opera on Broadway with my wife, son and some friends. Great show but the three day mini vacation cost us over $2k

I will, and thanks. She already has a GSXR600 and I ride it most of the time because she just doesn't.

Not that she doesn't want to, but she leaves for work at 3:30 AM. She doesn't want to disturb the neighbors at that hour but also, she doesn't like riding in the dark either. So, I ride it most of the time.

She wants a Ducati next. A 749 or a 999. Then she says, the GSXR is the only bike she really wants. So, in the future a 749 or 999 might darken my garage with its presence. I'm pretty sure I'll end up riding it too.

At any rate, she deserved a special 50th. Like I wrote before, she supports me in whatever I want to do. She does little things for me all the time to show she's thinking of me. It was time for me to step up and do something special for her. So I did.....sean

I have a subscription to SBK and MotoGP. I just use the internet app on the firestick and log in. Easy as that.....sean
