Hi folks, I'll be in Phoenix (Apache Junction) for a week from April 8. I was wondering if anyone in the area might have an old pedal bike (road bike) they would be willing to let me borrow for a couple days. I'm training for bike racing and am doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer so I would love to use the warm weather to continue training if I could.

Let me know, thanks.

Well tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler than the last week or so. A really good ride is head east on the 60 up to Superior. Then turn south on highway 177 and ride down to the t-intersection in Winkleman. Stop at the gas station right there and have snack and/or drink. Lots of Tucson riders come up and stop there also, so always other riders to talk to, and bikes to look at. After your break head north east on highway 77 all the way up to highway 70 just east of Globe. Go west through Globe, Miami, and Claypool, through Top of the World and back into Superior. That is a ride I first rode back in the late 1970's, and still do once in a while. People call it The Winkleman Loop now and it's about 100 miles in length from Superior, or about 200 miles total from east Phoenix or Tempe area. It's all twisty and curvy with lots of elevation changes. I think a couple places are 4500 ft elevation.
Good food at Guayo's El Rey in Miami.
Sorry if you already know about this ride, and I bet you do if you've been in AZ long. But it's so good I thought I'd recommend it.
In the mid '80's I rode a Kawasaki Z1-R, and would leave my house in Chandler, scream up to Globe for lunch at Pegs Kitchen, and be back in Phoenix for work at Sky Harbor by 2:30 pm

I have done that ride before. I do want to start more north though and to venture around Sedona and Flagstaff to get out of the heat a little bit. That does sound like a pretty good ride to do again and venture around and meet others. I have only been here for a year and am trying to find more sports bike guys around my age since the dude I do ride with rides a BMW.
