I thought the OP meant painting the non-refracting interior portions of the headlight housing, not putting crap on the lenses. When done in cars, this usually gives the blacked out or smoked headlight appearance. To do this, you usually bake the headlights at low temperature in an oven to soften the sealant, then paint them and reseal them. I don't think this is doable in the EX500 because it doesn't look like there's much wasted chrome or spare space to paint in our relatively simplistic headlamp design.
