riding to nicaragua wouldnt be that bad. the pan-american highway will take you there.

if you want to continue into south america though... you have to contend with the darien gap. the road stops in panama, and it starts up 100 miles later in colombia.

A guy I know rode his bicycle from CT to Brazil. He was trying to get to cape horn, but got hit by a truck in Rio.

There's a book by paddy Tyson called "the hunt for puerto del falgioli" or something like that... Great read (and part of his trip was through there)
