Can anyone advise if they have fitted a front 17 teeth (tooth?)one.
Specifically is there sufficient clearance for chain in housing area?
I do a lot of commuting and would like higher gearing to reduce
engine wear at sustained higher speeds. All flat area with very little hills.
Yes, I'm aware it's perfectly geared as it is, but looking for less wear plus increased economy.
Thanks Alan

most of the racers go higher in gearing so they don't top out too fast. however, i'm sure you would have perfectly normal engine wear with stock gearing, as most people run high in the rev range daily and still have reliable rides. why would you need that much top end? I ride 80 in 6th at 7k RPM for about 35 miles on the interstate to school and then 35 back with no problems.

There have been riders who used 17s with no mentioned problems. I'm not one of them so I can't really fill any of the gaps, but it has been done. I haven't seen anyone talk about it since the old forum, so it's probably been awhile.
