Hi there, I am a new rider and just got my hands on a 1990 ex500 (beautiful bike!). Unfortunately it has a leak in the side of the gas tank that stared small but has become more of a problem. I was curious if there was a site that people would recommend to purchase a replacement or if it is better to fix it with the help of a local mechanic. Thanks in advance!

The tanks are quite thin and rust-through is common. I had to send one eBay tank back because of it. Fix one leak and others will pop up. Since 1987-2009 tanks are physically identical, look for a late model with a clean interior. Still, you either have to paint it to match or repaint the entire bike. If you are extremely lucky, you can find a clean 1990 tank, but you would have to be really patient.
