??? When I change the oil, the old stuff smells like gasoline. Is this normal? The bike's a year old with about 5,000 miles on it.

Yes and no,
Two faults. Vacume petcock failed to shut off completly. Carb float valve failed to stop the flow of gas to the carbs completly.

Both common faults, but not on a bike as new as yours.

Carbs overflow and gas runs into the engine through the intake valve and trickles past the rings into the crancase.

If the bike runs OK learn to manually shut off the petcock when leaving the bike parked for more thana few minuits.

The fix is to overhaul the petcock and the carbs.
