New to kawsakis in general, started working on a zx750p3, and the engineering kinda got me a bit more interested in it than the usual honda and suzuki sportbikes that i've been used to. found a ratty 2004 ex500 on market place with some minor imperfections i knew i could get going relatively easy, insert ~Shop Ninja~ first iteration is just getting this bike going fixing all the maintenance items and making sure it was going to be an enjoyable and cool commuter, insert bedliner fairings, 135 mains, cleaned slows, new brake pads, wheel bearings 120/90/17 shinko 705 with a tube in it, the ex500 holes were great for the tube stems. and a 130/90/17 shinko 705 out back. new throttle push and pull cables, heated grips as well, misordered for a customer.

yet to come....
seat to be recovered yet, and to build some sort of panniers so i can actually go get parts to include tires with it.
i've bought two front ends from dirtbikes and trying to decide and build out a triple tree with my 3 in 1 smitty to adapt either an 1988 rm250 front end or a 90s ktm front end i have yet to identify. and push the rear of it up to match.

About me, i've been a hobby builder of cars all my life, square body chevys starting me off, getting into my own tuner scene with k series hondas and a built crv, eventually buying a cbr600, scaring myself, buying a shadow 1100 and (hating) how slow it was i started to go back the other direction, found a honda magna cheap, and put 20k or so on that (over the time i had it) fell in love with old oil cooled gsxrs and tinkered with plenty of those, coming around to playing with vintage singles and building an xt500 and sr500 side by side. now i build hot rods and cafe bikes full time at specialty cycleworks, started out doing maintenance and restorations. if anyone is actually interested in it i'd love to show more!

sounds like you've got some cool projects, would love to see whatever pictures you might have! more importantly though, super cute cat, love those eyes
Welcome! Put some LEDs in that thing so you have enough juice to run the grips. Good brakeline up front will make a big difference as will shortening the fork springs and adding a spacer to make up the difference. SV650 or ZR-7S shock for cheap. 2-1/2 turns on the pilots. Valve adjust as practical since the exhausts tighten up. The valves will never be quiet, though.

i honestly just plan on blowing this front end apart through abuse, i started looking real good for 88 rm250 parts for the front end. and yeah the 80s design is heard, and seen. are sv or zr7s shocks the same length as stock?
The ZR7s shock is good to go for - there is a right up somewhere on the forum for it. I have an aftermarket shock for a ZR&S on mine, just needed a couple of 1mm spacer washers for the top mount but other than that bolts right in. The shock is 10mm longer so will lift the rear ~30mm (just over an inch).

I have no complaints about the ZR-7S shock. Best, most affordable suspension upgrade I've found. I was under the impression that shock OAL is the same between EX and ZR, but that the increased spring rate (450 lb/in) is what raises the rear ride height. It might be both reasons, actually. All that I know is that it quickens steering perceptibly with no loss of stability. Probably costs more used than an SV650 shock, but is a direct fit and a higher grade shock to begin with.

Your ZX-7R is in better shape than mine.

I got mine a couple of years ago as a project, as I've always loved the ZX-7, especially the first model in '89 with the vaccum-cleaner-hose air ducts.. Unfortunately, I've just not had time to do anything with it yet.

Well this piece of junk has weak spark help me out! And when she will fire she's cherry has factory pilot and mains, 2.5 turns out, clean air mod as per Andy's tech tips, and I just can't get it to come down In temp on cyl 4.
Butthe star of the show, now has blown fork seals as of a spirited fire road ride this morninng. So I'm debating and grabbing the parts for the ktm front end and just sending it because it still has the caliper.
I've ordered my experimental ex500 triple, I'm gonna machine the stem out of it and make some kind of adapter sleeve to put a ex500 stem into my 1988 rm250 front end, I just gotta chose a dash before I really dive In, my boss has been pushing me to build it so we can get some unique advertisement going.
