Hi.
There is a ninja in the ER that has been badly damaged after an encounter with a deer (Both rider and deer are ok) but the ninja needs
some surgery and I figure this is a good opportunity to address some of the points for a more versatile Adventure type of use in the future.
By opening this thread I hope I can find some ideas, suggestions and recommendations and at the same time provide some ideas with
some of the mods.
Please do not tell me there are better bikes for this and I should not try this because I love the 500 and I am not going to give up on her.
Required mods are as follows:
- Front suspension. Not just a simple upgrade but entire front end group that can even survive the NY state roads. I have seen potholes here that beat the Mariana trench.
- New fairing, light and simple. New light speedo and tac (possibly vapor).
- New seat. I will make it flat and extend the front. piece. Will try to reupholster myself and see how that goes.
- New Swing arm and shock. This is going to be a *****. We need more travel and better dampening. Will never be something to jump but will have to give at least a couple of extra inches.
I am affraid this will not be possible w/o welding and lathe/mill work but we will see.
- 2 in 1 raised stainless steel exhaust with raised muffler.
- full engine cover.
- improve shifter and brake pedal so they tilt with falls and avoid contact with engine so they will not bend or puncture the engine cover when falling.
- crash bars, not huge but effective.
- 28mm enduro handle bars.
- lower and advance pegs 2+2 inches.
- Spoke wheels and adv. tires.
- led lights, blinkers/indicators, etc..
- Rear rack and panniers.
- Other conveniences like usb outlets, two gas petcocks, gps mount.
Target budget: 1,500. My son and I will put the labor and fabrication hrs.
Here is the patient....
Here is her new dream after the surgery...
