So I was out on a ride yesterday and was going to a spot where I could hit the twisties. Here I was minding my own business when two guys on an r6 and an fzr6, came up from behind me and mocked my bike as they drove by. Was I going to take that?!? Hell no! I gased it and the race was on. Its when you are mechanically out matched when you figure out how well of a rider you are, sure you can have a big bike and go fast, but if you don't know how to ride all that power don't mean crap. I passed those posers on a turn and they didn't see anything but my backside for the rest of the mountain!

Re: Re: making fun of my 500??

The only person that has ever made fun of my bike was a complete squid, and a terrible employee. (co worker i had) I think he had a 600 of some sort, but boasted that his bike was so much faster than mine and therefore he was better.

Other than that, I've had nothing but respect for my bike from other bikers, sport, and cruisers alike. Of course, my custom paint may have helped, but I've found if they're a true biker they won't put another down.

Good job showing them your backside too! Put them in their place.

I've actually been surprised by the respect I get from other riders. Considering all the cliques in biking I've never had a bad experience. I've done a couple charity rides where I've been surrounded by cruisers :)

That kind of stuff is what I live for. The same type of thing happens here all the time. Almost every time I ride there's some yahoo whether in a car or on another bike that wants to get it on. All I can say is when I'm all wired up and my best ex (the BLACK one) is at temperature.. no one can beat me!

Hey Gpzpaul, you read that too, right? He said.....and I quote.....the BLACK one. LOL.

I've never had anyone make fun of my bike. In fact I get a lot of compliments. In fact I live squid town where the Gixxer and R6 reign supreme.

Kids in highschool said I should have gotten a gixxer. I got roasted on a forum when I said my 500 would spank their mazdaspeed3's. And someone with a Shadow 700 thinks his bike is faster. Other than that I never had problems. Although I think I'm going to sell it soon for a Bandit 1200 :-\

Nah...that's a nice machine you got there. :) It's more the people that make fun of you are making up for their shortcomings.

I'll have a crowd of guys waiting around the 500. When I walk towards it, put my helmet on, and start it up, they all leave. I guess they're waiting to see a hot chick!! Nope, sorry guys. Nothin' for the spank bank!

When I first got the ex500 I hated it and made a comment on another site about it, it was under powered clunky, couldn't buy bolt on accessories, and no one agreed, but later realized it was a simple machine and with a little creativity it can be a wow moment to a lot of people never ever had anyone talk any smack about the ex500 with the exception of my self which I took back 4 fold after owning 4 of these (2)1st gens (current 1989 & my first ex500 a 1993 that I trashed but bought it on fleabay for 200.00 so cant complain) and (2)2nd gens both 2008 that most the older folks have seen on here and the work I have done to the one and the other was left stock. Only people that worry about the ex500 is the rider coveting other bikes I think or ignorance.

I owned 1 2008 R1 loved it, it was a rush, but a major danger @13,000 RPM in first gear front wheel coming off the ground whether you wanted it to or not, insurance 3 times higher, fuel consumption was about 10 mils to the gallon higher, and it what I paid on it could have bought and paid for 3 nice ex500's. I also owed a v-star 2009 and rode it in the mountains (when I lived in Colorado) and there was no kind of speed in those corners otherwise you begine to drag hard part underside of the bike, very scary when looking over a cliff at the same time.

In short I love the EX500 and the EX500R Ninja, just sad they have not replaced it with a true comparison, closets I seen is the Ninja 300.

^^^ Agreed! Of all the bikes I have owned in the last 20 years, this 500 Ninja is my favorite. It's economical, practical, comfortable, and affordable. It's difficult to find a clean used 500.

Agreed EX500's are basically off the CL radar screen here...nothing decent...either neglected, non-original and way overpriced or absolute bastardized junk.

Lest we forget last produced in '09. Ultimately, clean examples will dry up....I repeat...maintain your "keeper" original, operational and clean...they are destined to become classics (witness a few well kept, NICE, original Gen 1's around the forum here)
