Would electrical resistance cause issues that would cause my starter to notch turn crank shaft?

I ask because I've been googling and wondered if by small chance I had the starter terminals backwards,I knew I didn't but swapped them anyway. Did nothing, start button got no response.. swapped terminals back around and there seems to be,what seems to me, a little less slipping from the starter. I took the plug off the crank that shows the reverse thread bolt. No changes other than swapping terminals back and making sure they're tighter. Which makes me question if my issue of the starter not turning the crank is because I have too much resistance.

Can I use a multimeter some how when cranking to see if I'm getting the right amount of juice?

Got new shocks ordered, hopefully they're strong enough to hold up the weight.

"commutator" there's a new word for me lol. I'll have to open it up some time this week.

Once it gets in the mood to actually turn over it wants to start. Just a hassle of getting to that point (holding start button for seconds and bumping)

Watched a video and was expecting way more internals . But thankfully there wasn't a lot. Carbon dust on the other hand.......Christ.

Anyhow I cleaned this up with a green pad

One of the brushes on this is more worn than the other,I'll order a rebuild kit.

And of course....with my damn luck and desire to give everything one last uggabugga...... fml. I'll swing by the hardware store after work and hopefully find a replacement.

I had trouble getting it to seat properly. The gear wouldn't turn because the other end wasn't seated. Couldn't figure it out. Thought maybe I had to tighten it more....obviously I was wrong.

These 2 marks on the outer edge of the yoke must line up with corresponding marks on the ends of the starter for everything to seat properly.

Thought I'd be able to find a bolt at the hardware store that would work for the starter. Got super close but they didn't have a 5 inch. Stupid me thought about drilling the holes to make a slightly larger bolt work........I'm waiting for ebay instead so I don't keep messing this up :ROFLMAO: ...oh well. But I'll be able to work still until rebuild kit comes. Got these from Santa today

Probably going to be entirely too stiff. But oh well. Will spot weld these in tomorrow and see if it handles me bouncing on it. Ones that came with it bottomed out. Shocks and possibly brakes tomorrow. Hopefully....

hi, @BitOffTooMuch a question for you (may pose this to others) when looking for an engine to put in a buggy, cart. snowmobile, boat, or whatever else, what made you choose the EX500 engine for the job, been meaning to ask this for a long time but never got round to it.
considering the hassle of weight, water cooling, problems with carburation and wiring why the EX ???.
there must be dozens of alternative engines out there far better suited to the task. lighter air cooled less carb issues and simple wiring. so what makes the EX the surprise go to engine for this type of build.

I've wanted a kart since I was a kid, I mean who didn't? Anyhow one night going down the rabbit hole on YouTube I see karts suggested for me to watch...and eventually that led to watching karts that went from the plain ol Honda /Predator 212, to the 420, to seeing people put motorcycle engines on them. Me being me I thought that would be cool to have that power.

Some time later I look up karts for sale on FB marketplace. After seeing that I simply didn't have the money that everyone seemed to be asking for karts that, imo weren't worth it. One of the last I see if the beat up patina frame from my original post. And the guy was selling it with the ex500 motor. It seemed like a match made in heaven, I couldn't believe it. And it was only 300 bucks for both...

Shortly after arriving and seeing the actual size of this dang "kart" , and the rats nest of wires that I posted long ago, at that moment I knew I ........BitOffTooMuch 😅😎.

But I'm too far into it now. The welder, the over priced steel I was buying from HD before I knew better, the replacement parts from frying stuff, etc, the list goes on. I've thought about calling it quits, or getting a predator motor. But I've got something to prove to myself and my oldest son with this. I told him we'd build a kart together ( he bailed day one) so I will journey on and finish this myself.

Knew nothing about motorcycle engines, welding, understanding wiring schematics until this damn project. Lots of things learned. Worth it.

Think I'm done trying with this FN thing. Don't know how I managed it. But the swing arm isn't square despite my efforts. All this time. Finally got my parts ready and I noticed this( after getting defective shocks)

I'm afraid that is the nature of "projects" more so unusual ones. a constant never ending stream of problems to solve, modifications needed to solve a problem then the next problem requires another modification only to find the new modification doesn't work with the modification you did before, that then requires modifying the previous modification, to reach the next problem, where the process repeats it's self and so on.
we (the modifiers) have all been there many times, either you stick with it put it down to experience and resolve the issues or give up but that then robs you of the satisfaction of knowing you beat it. can't help much with the build no idea what you are doing.
but if somethings not square it is for a reason. work out how much it's out of square, how you can make square, then modify it to make it square. it's only metal, a welder, angle grinder, and a drill should fix it.

You're not going to end up getting your toes cut off with that shifter right next to the sprocket, are you?

Wait what ,toes cutoff how 🤦🏿‍♂️.

If there's some glaring concerns let me know now lol

I don't plan on driving this backwards,at first....

.......

Gotta salvage some of it,keeping where it bolts to frame, and the pieces with the axle hub. Will also be lighter since I have square tubing
