I'm planning to get a used 500R and modify it for an around town scoot. Kid of a cross between a streetfighter and a motard look. Looking for ideas on selecting some performance upgrades exhaust, suspension, tires, etc. I'm going to pull the fairing and install dual headlights. Probalbly will need some non-integrated gauges.

Greatly appreciate your help.

Welcome!
Try out the "Search" function at the top-right of this page.

There are a couple topics that have already gone through street vs track tires, suspension mods (front springs/oil, rear dogbones), several fairing write-ups...

Take your time & read through them. Look also at the "stickies" as the top of each Forum window.
Enjoy & offer ideas/ask questions in each topic as suits you.

How about this mod:

Thinking about dual-sport tires, just for shits and giggles. Wire rims would be awesome too. Bike weighs in at 370 with oil, coolant, and a half tank of gas.

Send a PM to ChopperCharles, and do a search on the site for his bike. He has a slick looking chopped up EX500 he turned into an around town hooligan bike!

Edit (Ironic, while I was posting that, Charles came on here himself!)

Charles, got any pics under the seat? Or is it just the frame under there? I'm just curious how you did all your electronics, or did you move them elsewhere?

I can't help but wonder how that would look with a solo seat and the rear subframe shortened up. I think it'd be insane.

I welded a steel plate beneath the rear tank mount, and put a gell cell battery on it's side under there. It *just* wedged in there. I'll take a pic of the area under the seat eventually. I'm actually making a big write-up as to everything I've done, and I'm going to diassemble some parts to take better pictures of how I did certian things.

Throttle response on the pods is great. I'm running 132 mains and .020" shims under the needles, and the bike runs well, but I have a set of 135 mains I'm going to try this weekend.

That is the coolest EX500 I have ever seen! I am guessing that most of it is custom right? I can't just pop into eBay and get that frame lol.

Tried to send too many pics last time, lets try it again. Although this is not a kawi, it was a project I did earlier this year that sounds a little like what your talking about. It's raised 2.5" inches in the rear and maxed in the front.

I understand that it has a steel fram. Did you paint it silver or is that how they are??
