i was wanting to know if any of you have a GPS system on you bikes like if someone would to steal your bike it would tell you where it is? and if so can you give me websites that sell them cause i want to put one on my bike. thanks
Usually in most cases if a bike is stolen the first thing they do is rip it off and get rid of it. Just a car with onstar you can activate that however its possible to take it off quickly. There is the TOMTOM rider which is ridiculously expensive and the garmin nuvi which isnt cheap but also nice!! if you go with one of those check out techmounts they are the guys that make most of the nice looking gps holders for motorcycles.
unless the gps is wired directly to your motorcyles wiring system so it will know if the ignition system is tampered with then the answer is no. you can go all out super custom and do one yourself that would be pretty sweet...
those guys have a camera that you mount inside your car and when someone tampers with your car it takes a picture of them and sends it to your key fab... pretty sweet i tell ya
the same company has a gps tracking system you can hide in you car... prob you could on your bike too this stuff isnt the worst for price too the camera system is 329 on bizrate.com and the gps tracking system is 130.
does anyone on here have a Lo-Jack installed on there bike and if so how much do they cost? would really like to get something to make me feel better about leaving my bike in the parking lot when i ride it to work
I hate to tell you but your not going to stop anyone from stealing your bike. If they really want it they will get it and you'll never see it again. People steal and get away with it on cars and trucks with extrememly high end security systems. Think about how much easier it is to strip a bike to it's frame and disconnect everything. Besides its an ex500. Has there ever been a high theft rate on them? One thing I never do is leave my helmet laying around. That's all I'm ever worried about getting stolen. One thing I am doing though is getting a new place with a garage. Less chance of someone stealing the bike when it's in pieces or just sitting at home. I could just always leave it in the back of the truck but then it's even easier to roll into another truck...haha. Oh well. If you really want one that bad i guess go for it. I don't see the point though.
Your average GPS unit wont send out any information on where it is, so it won't help you find a stolen bike. You want a system like LoJack, which is designed to send out it's position to police so they can track the vehicle.
I'm not sure how big the lojack units are, but I bet you could hide one well enough that a thief wouldn't notice it for a while.
