Was thinking maybe a meet at Alice's and a ride through the redwoods would be cool (Hwy 9 is a fun, relaxing twisty ride). Would love to hear what others from around the Bay area think so post up if this sound good to you and lets see where this goes.
Alice's might be cool....but I could skip the Hwy 9 ride. Done it enough times that it's off my must do list. Might I suggest a meet up in The City. There are a plenty of places to meet up. I for one, don't need a ride as part of the deal. Also you might just want to post this in the "On the Road" section of the forum....there isn't much traffic in this section......sean

I'm up for a meet sometime however I am still learning and have not done any long distance rides yet. I'm not familiar with Alices? Located in Vacaville but I grew up in Petaluma.

I'm in Fairfield so maybe we can meet up sometime...Alice's is down in Woodside on Skyline Highway. Skyline is a must do ride at least once in your life. From where we are, it's about an hour to hour and ten minute ride to get to some twisty stuff that's nice, but it's a long haul for the kind of ride we can get to in ten minutes.....sean

I am up for a local meet and greet. I tend to work more weekends than not but if you are available on weekdays at all I'm sure we can make something work.

Re: Nor Cal Get Together...Who's In?

Tuesday would be better for me....I have a final on Wednesday night so I plan on spending all day cramming for it. I could use a break on Tuesday I'm sure.....lemme know....we could go someplace besides Starbucks....like maybe Jamba Juice instead. Either one is good with me. If Jamba Juice is good with you; wanna meet at the one at Nut Tree or the one by Chilli's? Also, afternoon works better for me, I usually pedal in the mornings....sean

That bike looks clean, sorry about your 500. What are the specs on the new one: year, mileage? Did the dude wreck it during a test drive or was it a friend?

Well, its a 94 ZX6E with 52000 on it, very neglected and needs tlc but yes it is nice shape.

So here is the story:
After riding a friends CBR i found it to be allot more comfortable than the EX (back issues), so i started hunting for one and put mine up for sale. After allot of flakes and scammers one person came through with good intension's on buying mine so i contacted some people on other bikes. Most of the people i contacted never got back with me and the ones that did thought their bike was gold and wouldn't budge on their price. Everyone knows people (including me) ask more than they plan to get out of their sale, i took the $1500 offer for mine and found the ZX which they guy came down to $1500 from the $1800 he was asking.
Now the good (or not so good) part, the kid (mid 20's I'm guessing) asks to meet at a coffee shop to do the deal, i refused and made him come to the house. He shows up (with no helmet) and wants to take it for a test ride, so i tell him put the cash in my hand and no problem. I back the bike out of the driveway and have it facing toward the other side of the street (i live on a very busy street btw), and fire it up to show hip it starts fine and runs great. I give him my helmet and he mounts the bike, kills it trying to take off (not enough gas), then has an issue restarting it (in gear, no clutch). At this point i realize something is a miss and ask his girlfriend if he even knows how to ride a bike ( now i know why people ask to see an M1 license), she says "yes, his dad tought him how to ride his Harley".
He gets it in neutral re-fires it and before i could say anything, put it in gear grabs a handful of throttle and dumps the clutch :O! At this point the bike launches into a wheel stand and he has a death grip and whiskey wrist, as I'm yelling "let it go, let it go" he shoots across the street and SLAMS into a parked Mercedes :O. I run to his aid (on the ground with the bike on top on him now), and with super human strength (adrenalin i guess) pick the bike off him and throw it to the side yelling "DON'T MOVE,DON'T MOVE...WHERE ARE YOU HURT", he responds with "I'm OK,I'm OK" and gets up.
With the bike trashed and the car caved in at the drivers door i tell him, sorry but you just bought a totaled bike man.

Ouch!! That's a tough way to learn a lesson. For the kid I mean. At least you had the sense to get the money up front.....but you should have gotten all that on video! Does the kid even have insurance to pay for the damage to the Mercedes? I gotta LOL though.....the thought of that sequence of events running through my mind makes me laugh...sorta like that youtube video of the guy on the SV running into a tree!........sean

Re: Nor Cal Get Together...Who's In?

Man that is brutal, for all involved.

And to AprilliaRider and Scuttle, I SO wish I could join! Go figure, this will be the first Tuesday I have worked in over 3 months! Scuttle, you and I have exchanged a few messages, but it's good to know you usually have weekdays off, as do I (Mondays and Tuesdays usually). Unfortunately, I won't be coming out to Vacaville until Wednesday, ironically around noon, to help a friend work on his 240z project

One last thing, can we keep this post going, in some form, whether it be on this page on another, so help gain some momentum for a future meet up hopefully more than two? I know there's more of us greater Bay Area folk on here.

Re: Nor Cal Get Together...Who's In?

@Saabnut-i second that, lets keep the communication going and see if we can get more interest in this. I tried to get tomorrow off as well buuut no go, and also Sun so i could go to MotoGP buuut no go...i got Wen,Thur,Fri off lol. I know there are more good people around the bay area on here just wonder if they haven't caught the thread or what lol.

Since i have only been in Cali a few months i still don't know my way around that well but thanks to Goggle I'm learning. I went for a ride (solo) Sat south around Laguna and almost found myself lost (back road cruise) lol. Somehow i ended up where i wanted to be though, (thank you Goggle Map App) and actually had a group of riders headed to Laguna roll up on me so i traveled with them for a while. I have been a little hesitant on lane splitting but broke my cherry on that one since traffic was backed up bad on 101 and 156, still kinda freaky though lol.

Re: Nor Cal Get Together...Who's In?

I'll meet up with Scuttle tomorrow....I've got a final on WED so I'll be studying all day for that. I'm headed to Sacramento for the Sac Mile on Sat. Also, will be going to the Santa Rosa Mile in September so that's an event we could meet up at...short trip for you saabnut. Both are weekend events though. I think 5 PM is when the races start if that makes a difference for you. Keep us posted on your week day options, we ( scuttle and me) might be able to ride over and meet you in say Napa or Calistoga on a weekday. We could catch lunch at Buster's BBQ in Calistoga.....mmmmmmm Buster's......mmmmm.....BBQ.......Oh, sorry...was having a Homer Simpson moment there...

As for meeting up South of The City or in The City we should plan that before the weather turns in Nov or Dec....unless we get another mild one and have until Jan to do so.....sean
