I would avoid Palomar Mountain on ANY weekend when possible. Too many idiots think its their personal racetrack. Weekdays you can climb the mountain with far less hassle.

yea, i went up on a friday and there were maybe 6 bikes in total that i saw. It was really nice, there was even some snow left on the ground in the shade. I wish i had taken more pictures but alas, i was riding too much.

You picked a good day. There are a few curves near the top (after the last switchbacks are cleared) where ice can be found at times. It is one of the few shades spots on the grade. I was there on a Saturday once (bad idea) and idiots were trying to pass in a blind turn while I was giving a bicyclist a bit of room (rather than buzzing them like they do). Sad. If you have a cyclocross or mountain bike, Nate Harrison Grade is the way to go. No motorcycles, its steeper, its dirt, and more scenic.
