Possible causes for engine oil consumtion

I think my EX is eating oil, I understand small amounts burn naturally but I find I'm losing quite a bit. No leaks whatsoever. Any ideas? 2006 with 12500 miles.

Only additional info I can add is when repairing the drain plug threads I broke the guide knob for this long tube like thingy that plugs into the bottom of the oil pan and goes up into the engine somewhere. I was able to reinstall it just fine but without the guide the skinny tube thingy can now spin freely within it's fittings. Thats all.

Thanks

Oil also evaporates... just a little something to roll around your brain for eternity. Doubt that's the problem though.

How much are you loosing? to me, a lot is half a quart or more. to you it could be a few ounces.
I wouldn't know how to measure the loss exactly... but I had to refill the bike with about quart last week. The oil was fine a month ago.

As far as the exhaust... :-\ I was getting a little paranoid and stuck a finger in the exhaust pipe(engine was still fairly cold) and, it left a damp black residue on my finger... :( not like soaked in oil, but than again it could have been condensation and carbon build up(please be the latter)

I'm guessing the outside to be clean . If that is to be true , then that black in his pipes is likely oil . Hopefully not , but it doesn't sound good .
My green Kawi is also eating a bit of oil. I like to keep her rewed up when I ride, on average 6-7 K.
So, I would expect it to burn some oil. Also like other suggested, oil has a tendency to evaporate like any other liquids!
Just keep an eye on it.
As for black residue in exhaust it is most likely be settlements of spent hydrocarbons. I got the same situation with mine (I got 06 green Kawi).
Unless it is loosing oil rapidly or you can smell oil burning when engine first started, then I would be concerned.
Cheers!
P.S my Kawi eas about 200-300 mL of oil between OCI.

Oil isn't just gonna evaporate 1 qt. per month , it's just not in the norm .
It might not be the SOLE reason that it's low, but it may be contributing to the loss of oil, even if ever so SLIGHTLY.

still, if the outside of the engine top to bottom is clean, then it's an internal leak. Probably going into the cylinder via rings or valves, and going out the fart cans.
If your really using oil in anything approaching a quart or so in say 1000 miles, and it's not leaking. Then it's burning it. the cause of that is always worn/stuck rings. This won't necessaarilly show as blue smoke, untill the burning is much more sever. Using oil at the rate of 1 quart every 1000 miles is not very much, just keep checking it and topping it up. Actually if the compression is OK the engine may be running better. The fix is a ring job which ammounts to a top end rebuild and 700 800 bucks. you can buy a lot of oil for that.

I'll try an keep better records to find out how much oil vs. how many miles. New tires are coming in soon, so i'll be back on the road soon.

engine is... clean? well no oil leak buildup anywhere. (super small coolant leak though (post crash?))

I understand in moderation, when an engine burns oil its not nec. bad. It's just that it wasn't noticeable before... is this possibly a down the road break in sort of thing?
Did you get your bike checked by a mechanic since the crash?
haha i got a few mb techs that could look at it. tires are in the mail, when I'm all set I'll look into it some more. better numbers on the amount of consumtion, that sort of stuff.... i'm thinking the thread was pre-mature.
