The 250 rail filter designed too loose fitting, IMHO. I'd guess for ease of service? Owners routinely "lose" them entirely. I'd guess many don't know where it came from when it pulls out with the fuel hose....so they end up pushing it up further inside the fuel hose, not knowing where it was originally located to begin with.
I think the tighter (and cheaper) 500 rail filter would be the WTG. I'll check that aspect on these abused 250 carbs I'm currently doing.

Overall, the Kawasaki concept of using rail filters at fuel entry point is for valid reason....they work (see pic). Obvious owners responsibility to confirm proper install and service going forward.

Confirmed, the 500 mesh rail filter does firmly fit the 250 inlet elbow, and will remain intact during fuel hose removal. Going forward will add this as an option to my 250 service regimen.

today I'm on yet another 250 Ninja carbset....these varnished but perfectly serviceable. I project these will look and perform as if they left the Keihin factory just a couple days ago.

Another snow dump projected here Sunday ...these my storm project. I'll have them complete tomorrow, pics'll follow.

and these 250's done, factory fresh, bolt on runners as projected. And owner opted for the EX500 rail filter install for extra protection going forward! Also inspected petcock innards and confirmed it functional as well.

This morning, mail delivered incoming carbset for a very specific repair....a stuck, frozen in place pilot jet with a stripped head. Tense, tricky mini surgery deep within the pilot housing culminated in saving the body, no peripheral damage. Safely removed (in 3 pieces) and replaced with new OEM jet from my stock. Assured both pilolt circuits were clear...ready to run! Shipped back home by afternoon....same day service.

Leisurely doing a refurb on a nasty 500 carbset today. Neighbor brings over his 2 year old (but non starting) pressure washer, A (plastic!) carb pull shows a clogged tiny little main jet, cleared/ now starting one pull and running fine.

Also transitioning my workspace back outside to garage/shop from indoor cellar (winter quarters).

These EX carbs had evidence and effects of sandy stuff in float valve seats and bowls, resulting in rising fuel levels. I suggested adding a rail filter while owner checks his petcock screens and for tank/fuel contamination on his end. Otherwise, ready to run now.
