Now split and fully disassembled, found all the usual....hardened, stuck orings everywhere, nasty insides, way overtightened screws on bowls and tops, ovaled needle jets (unique to Ducati). Small parts in ultrasonic right now, getting a jump ahead.

Owner advises bike (Ducati 900SS/FE) has sat since 2001, wowsers. And he has authorized install of brand new Y-4 needle jets (which I stock specifically for these situations)

Almost.

Gen 1 Suzuki 1200 Bandits had a nasty habit of oval-ing the needle jets over time as well, making tuning impossible until new (expensive) parts were installed.

certain Yamahas as well. $19-20 each for new Y-2 or Y-4 needle jets.

Old GSXRs too. I’ve a set of BST38s with all 4 ovaled out.

hence the popularity of the Factory Pro nickle plated emulsion tubes, 2 for $74 plus freight.

IMHO the extreme "preloading" of the needles in the Mikuni's is the killer here.

another set of Ducati / Mikuni BSDT38's in process. Fuel rail seals show a ton of white varnish, 1 pilot jet needed 'help' in removal. Thankfully, spares stocked for these exact circumstances. Throttle slides frozen solid.

250's in house today. Finished, but not without some drama. Replaced aftermarket, non-marked main and pilot jets. Ugh. Had no choice but to repair via enlargement/drilling/tapping a stripped female thread at the float bowl, upped from 4 to 5mm (see pic). Other changes were made where necessary to net a set of now perfectly set up, usable carbs.

another 250 set finished this morning. Coincidentally, the same exact drilling/tapping sequence in the same exact spot was required! Overtightening screws (compensating for flattened bowl gaskets) is a no-no. Replace the darn bowl gaskets! In this case, I ran out of my standard, I subbed Lite-Tek spares. Also replaced a torn diaphragm.
All consumables replaced, adjusted, synched, wet tested. I'll submit these as now fully functional, a far cry from what I was initially sent.

working on a '99 Honda Shadow 600 (single carb model Keihin) today. Aside from a totally clogged pilot jet, can't find any other faults. In any event, going through all the usual motions, replacing orings, meticulous cleaning of all jets and internals as well as bodies.

These carbs employ both an accelerator pump and decel valve. Though not quite complete, waiting on carb top (painted gloss black using ceramic caliper paint) to thoroughly dry.

completed 2 sets of carbs yesterday ....a 250 and 500 Start time 10am....finish 10pm. A few meal breaks between o'course. I've still got yet another set of 500's from the same group o' guys...the 3rd one actually. They are running EX engined sprint cars in upper NY state. They insist on using Dynojet kits. Ok, customer is always right.....a recent quote after running the 1st set (properly set up and tweaked)....."it never ran so good"...hence the repeat business. Of course, the CCS ink pen included. The 250 set a guy from Brooklyn NY....he'll be happy I'm sure.

Doing a slightly unusual one today. Encountered in a "new-gen" 2011 250 a Factory Pro Jet kit which will need tweaking for the lack of airbox and 2-1 exhaust, complicated by owners above sea level location in Colorado, Awaiting further info from owner as to additional "mods" on the bike.....will adjust accordingly. Pics to follow.
