on a set of long neglected XV920 carbs (from 1981), note frozen open throttle plate? Actually, both throttle plates and both slides frozen in place. Currently awaiting parts order delivery.

A nasty '81 XV920 Yamaha (early Hitachi CV) carbset up today, parts arrived. Owner advises last run/sitting since '06. I tend to believe him as every brass component and orifice is badly discolored/clogged/ covered in residue. Throttle shafts and slides are each frozen in place. Anyways....I predict they'll be fine runners and look ok as well. More pics as progress dictates.

a few more. Wet testing each individually as each carb receives fuel separately, finally join and synch them.

now completed, pics as promised

findings included way overpowered, oversized diameter slide return springs , a PO no doubt "borrowed" from another model. Some research with partsbooks revealed EN500 springs should be same as EX250, which I have here. Comparison revealed the difference. All corrected now.

I "inherited" a non-running Craftsman 32cc (4 stroke) weedwhacker. Previous owners placed it out in the garbage, having already purchased a new one.

The problem? Of course dirty carb (Walbro WYL ) and fuel line related. Cut to the chase, I cleaned ALL carb innards, replaced all the rotted/disintegrating fuel lines and fuel filter with brand new.... drilled out the tiny main jet to .0135", increased the float level just a bit using my Walbro float level gauge. Verified/checked valve clearances fine at .006" (where have i read that VC are critical to check? ) and soda blasted the spark plug to perfectly clean it. I believe I've covered all the bases....its now an instant starter/runner!

Now just needs new "cutting lines" and I'll put it into service immediately. Cost so far? Zero.....all parts came from my stock.....now a keeper fo' sure!

I've ordered a carb kit as the fuel pump diaphragm was quite hardened, its simply time for a new one. And a new primer bulb, the original has also hardened and frankly, split. I custom cut another, used super glue to glue it right over the breaks......to temporarily repair until new arrives.

Note edited to add further details.

After removing and sodablasting the actual rotating trimmer assembly, I purchased and today installed correct trimmer lines, a carb kit and new primer bulb. I now await delivery of a "small D" screwdriver to fine tune the (adjustable) main "emulsion tube"...... Otherwise the Craftsman trimmer now starts/runs/performs great. Total investment so far....$22..... I'd surmise that is well worth the effort.

Today doing a set of 250's with pilot jets "hogged out" quite bigly..... as in I've never seen pilots nearing main jet sizes, these well over a full mm..... .at well over .040" WHY? I've been advised bike still has stock exhaust and airbox. Amazing, replacing with new #38 pilots from my stock.

had a water leak on my Craftsman power washer....this morning removed/stripped the water inlet control valve from the pump unit... replacing every oring in the area, including the 1 that was split! A total SUCCESS! Good for another 20 years, I'll guess (or hope for at least)
