I don't really see the point in bike vests. I'd still be wearing a jacket under it since I like my arm skin as much as my chest/back skin. But it does look cool, and +1 to USAF instead of Army.

A properly padded vest helps protect the vertebrae, & protects against puncture & slicing wounds from windscreens, poles, branches, guardrails, guardrail posts, etc...

A puncture wound into or through the arm would be no fun... but through the chest or gut could be deadly.

Back in the 70's while working the F-111Fs at Mtn Home AFB, Idaho we'd joke about some Day-shifters being in another branch of the USAF:

Err Force
Air Farce
Err Farce

Once in England with the E models at RAF Upper Heyford, where some planes were kept hot carrying some unmentionable (then) weaponry (aka, non-chemical bombs)... there was a lot less BS even on dayshifts.
So no such language was used.

Back on topic... Neato Bikes...
