Top Speed ....112.9 mph

Early this AM, on a lonely stretch of I-95 in Florida, I did several runs up to max speed.

I had a GPS unit on my bike. This GPS unit is extremely accurate and give max speed.

I have a 2005, that just turned 10K miles this AM. It's in good tune, but all stock.

Well, my on my last & fastest run the bike's speedo read around 120 mph, but the GPS read 112.9 mph.

At a steady speed of 70 mph reading on the speedo, the GPS reads 66.7 mph, so I know there is error.

I was tucked-in and low as possible during the runs. I'm sure I may have gotten a few more mph's out of it had I more room, but those of whom have posted 120+ mph I believe are seeing a good deal of speedo reading error.

Keep Safe!
Steve

Good run! Fastest I've yet gone on it is 108 indicated on the speedo, and my friend who was just ahead of me (Garden State Parkway in NJ) said that his GPS was showing 105, so I'd guess that's about right. Shame though, as the bike got to that speed and then just wouldn't go any faster...I'm thinking it's my rather un-aerodynamic profile that did it, haha!

Be safe guys!

The most I've hit so far, is about 130 on my 500R when I owned it. still had a little more oomph left in it too. I felt pretty comfortable at those speeds on it, but my CBR just feels more solid at all speeds, like its not going to come off the rails.

Hopefully one of these days I can get some time on a VERY LONG straightaway and see exactly what my CBR will do on the top end. I'm not betting on much more than roughly 140-150 indicated on the top end. I really need like 5 miles of closed course roadway void of police and traffic to test this on though. I think I"ll just baby her instead and only go for the corners over speeding straight line. doesnt take a master motorcyclist to go fast in straight line, but cornering requires skills AND balls.

my 08 500 has 6000 miles and when i hit 120 it feels like it still wants to go faster...but there is a speedo error...i forget where i found it but the speedo does read faster than the actual speed.. 108 sounds kinda slow for a 500..how many miles are on it?....i broke my engine in hard and its been fast since 0 miles and the fuel mileage has gone from 43 at 0 miles to almost 53 at 6000 miles...seems like it runs better and better everyday.....

Mine is a '93, with just over 9k on it. It sat in a barn for 6 years until the 2nd owner got it, he kept it for a year and now I have it. I'm thinking it might just also be that I didn't have enough space, and that I shifted into 6th a little too soon...

Though according to some of the older magazine reports on it from the 90's, they saw an indicated 125 at the redline in 6th, so not sure. Could it just be the way the gearing is?

Interesting... What was your RPM at that speed? I'm curious because if you look at the Gearing Commander web site, the stock ex500 should do 117mph at 9500rpm. I'm just wondering how accurate the Gearing Commander web site is.

If you were sppeding and riding like a madman, Then the ticket you got, is what you deserved. Dont blame him , You were the one that broke the law. I have to know though, Did you get arrested, or a ticket, Your post is confusing.

I agree. You broke the law, you got what you desirved. This is coming from a guy why lost his licence for a year for speeding. Don't blam the cop for doing his job. That is what you pay taxes for. I would have thanked him for putting your money to good use.

hmmmm let see riding 90-100 mph in a crowded city Freeway..........be thankful 'all' you got was 9 tickets (or arrested...which one or both)...you are still alive and most importantly you didn't crash and hurt someone else......why would you call a cop names????? You endangered the public and his job is to protect the public.......

There's nothing funny about it.

from what i've read in magazine tests, the F2 did 144mph back in the day. a 600RR will indicate 160, but I doubt very highly that it will actually get to a GPS verfied 160.

The EX (again, according to what I have read) hits either 118 or 124, depending on who tested it. both speeds were radar verified, with the speedo indicating close to 140 :p

true, the stock clutch springs cant hang with the power. upgrade clutch springs and the 124 will be an actuall 130+ on a good day, speedo still indacating 140..
