whats the top speed everyone has reached here, and what gearing did you have when you reached that speed?

I reached a high of 115 at 9k rpm on my 500 once, stock 16/41 gearing, stock size tires, though the carbs were a little out of synch so it could have probably gone a bit faster.

Fastest I've had it was 170 k/ph, but that's by no means top speed on the the bike. I felt like givin' 'er on the highway for a minute, and then realized what a poor idea that was, given that kind of speeding ticket would end my riding for the year quite quickly.

115mph stock everything. Felt like I had more power.. just not the ..uh.. "guts". Which was a good thing, since just a few seconds after I shut it down, I had a cop come up on me. Guess he figured I wasn't being reckless since I didn't do it for long, as he then passed me.

For the record, 115 is a LOT faster on a bike than 147 is in a car (my other top speed).

my speedo is not hooked up, so I have no idea how fast I go on the straight. 44 rear sprocket and I almost top out in 6th gear before I have to put the binders on for turn 1.

180 kph according to the speedo on a flat,no wind. I was hunched over the tank. Felt rock-solid. All stock.
There may have been a bit more to be had. Thats 112 mph.

I hit 115mph when passing a couple times on a trip to Las Vegas, with a backpack and loaded tailbag and tankbag. I would agree that it felt quite solid. I haven't taken it back up to that speed since, and I probably won't anytime soon (speeding ticket).

Topped out at 130 mph (hit the rev limiter, bike felt like it was humping the road)
all stock except for chain and sprocket upgrade.

then again, there is that naughty speedo error.

was the rev limiter a add on???? At top speed of 115 the bike does not feel totally stable as some of you have described when compared to other bikes, my rc51 at 115 feels like 60-70 mph on the 500r. and at 155 on the rc51 i got scared but the bike felt very stable. but thats just my opinion

All three of my Ex race bikes, even #3 with the Penske and On which I set my best lap times, wobbled like crazy at any speed and cornering combination of better than full lean and 80 MPH. So for every MPH over 80 you had to reduce your lean angle by a few degrees, until at 110 ish you had better be straight up and down. The back straight at Bridgehampton was a long downhill easy left bend that was WFO. the bike would windup and release so hard that the back wheel would jump off the ground and step sideways 6inches or more, three or four times in 1/4 mile. I won a couple of races because the faster guys behind me were afraid to pass for fear of getting punted off the track when I crashed (never happened).

maybe im using the wrong term?
when you open the bike up full throttle, and the needle hits redline, and starts bouncing up and down, isnt that the rev limiter cutting gas to the engline?i may be totally off on this, im no expert, someone school me on this.

I dont constantly ride at full throttle, in fact that was the first time ive actually done that on my bike.

theres only one way to find the top speed. well, two, but im not paying for a dyno.

There isn't any rev Limiter.

What you have felt is the program of the CID ending. This happens way beyond the safe limit for the engine and should be avoided. By ending I mean it doesn't know what to do and the sparks from there on are just random and could cause Detonation. Just a little more over-revving from there (like backshifting down a hill) will open the big ends and spin bearings. = instant junk engine.

80-something. Cluck cluck. Bought the lovely thing to go twistin'!

Fastest I've ever driven was 110mph in a Volvo tractor-trailer, former owner had leased the truck and had the limits removed. Never thought a truck with nearly 12,000 pounds on the front axle would start to get light in the front end....
