Hey everyone,

I have been dreaming of doing a trip from my home (Calgary Alberta Canada) to see my friend, a fellow Ex-500 rider, in Mexico City. I am wondering if anybody has any tips as far as camping, food, navigation (GPS?) etc. goes. This trip would likely be this summer so I have plenty of time to plan and prepare if I start now.

Any tips?

What's your budget?
Camping only?
Do you plan to eat out along the way, or buy grocery store food and eat it on the road?
Straight ride down, or are you sight-seeing with the end goal being meeting your friend?
How long do you have to ride there and back?

Well I just got back from my trip a couple days ago. Check out the Goin to California thread and the Longest Ride on ex500 thread for info.

Stay hydrated. Heat protein snacks, not fat/sugar.
Stay on the hungry side for increased alertness.
Have really nice sunglasses, & a throttle-lock (?) for occasionally resting the right hand.

Every 5-10 minutes get off the seat for a few seconds & let the blood flow.
Every 2 hours or less get off the bike & walk briskly for 5 minutes.
See if you can make up a forward foot rest location so you can move your feet around.

Maybe take a baby aspirin each day to help fight off mini-clots. (Check w/ your Dr)
