trouble with coils

Ive been having problems with spark. I just checked my coils on my ex. The primary resistance checks out fine but the secondary resistance test out at infinity. According to everything I read they are to be somewhere between 10-18Ω. What are the chances of them both being bad at the same time?

There are occasional questions on this site about whether the mounting tabs for the coil are a ground connection for the coil. They are not.

The ignition coil is an autotransformer meaning it is a single coil with a tap. One end is the high voltage attachment. One of the tabs on the bottom is the other end of the coil and the remaining connection is the tap. Between the tap and the end of the coil the resistance is about 3-5 ohms. The resistance of the full coil should be around 14,000 ohms ( not 10-18 ohms ) measured without the spark plug wire. The spark plug wire can have a 5,000 ohm resistor in it.

Sorry, I wrote it out not thinking about how someone would of read it. hah The primary (spark plug wire) is perfect. I'm having trouble with the secondary(the tabs on the back of the coil).
the primary is the tabs. the secondary is one tab and the wire.'

i think he read the post wrong, or forgot to add it in, but the 10-18 is k-ohms. meter should be in ohms for the primary and k-ohms for the secondary.

Not sure of this is your issue but it is something to be aware of when measuring resistance - make sure you've got the right range set first on your multimeter. 14K Ohms will read as infinity if the range is set to 1-100 Ohms. 50 Ohms will read as a short circuit if the range is 0 - 1M Ohm.
