A buddy has a '77 GL1000. Last quote he got was $900 for a rebuild of the carbs (there are 6 of them and they're all tucked inside). I don't think it'd be that bad, but do a little checking before you put any money on the table. And watch your shins on those engine guards, another buddy had an '83 that we stripped of the fairings and I'd bust my shins on those things from time to time.

As for the Vulcan, good around town bike, plenty of juice for putting around. Once you hit the highway you'll be okay, but it'll run out of steam if you really want to crack it open. I've never actually ridden one, just going by what I've been told on that.

Faster, or quicker? When one guy with an 800 would ride with dad on his 1500 and a bunch of guys on their VTXs the 800 would keep up but they said it always seemed like he was really pushing the bike when they'd open it up.

I'd have say it was far more quicker and maybe a little faster . It had a lot of aftermarket stuff from the PO , not sure what all he did to it . Plus it weight is about half that of 800+ lbs. 1500.
