got a quick question....i checked the manual and it says that the gas tank vents thru the gas cap...

ARE THERE ANY VENT HOSES AT ALL?

If I recall correctly there's a vent hose on the part directly below the seat?
Your recall is less than "Total",
That hose under the seat is a "Drain", for water or whatever that may get into the area around the filler cap. outside the tank. The cap is vented on 49 state models and the CA ones have two hoses in the front that go to a recovery system of a vapor pump and a charcoal canister. These have sealed filler caps.

Yes, You have a 49 state cap with a vent. Getting a little gas leaking in better than if if is sealed. then your bike would stop when the vacume in the tank equalled the weight od the fuel inside.
