What Should My Gas Mileage Be?

1150-1250 RPM is where is should be.
ABOUT 1/4 above the 1k mark on the factory tach but keep in mind the factory tach MIGHT be off so use those things called ears. Bump up the idle if it sounds slow, lower if it’s running fast.

Fuel mileage... depends. Not like it hasn’t been asked or gone over before.
If I get less than 225 miles per tank (50 mpg) then I know something is up.... using 4.5 US gallons as baseline. Of course tank is bigger than that and I’m not counting reserve.
50 mpg should be what you get/expect if you ride like you have sense.

I prefer to open my fuel lid and look.

Tl:dr
Full tank, non constant red line starts and keeping with revs in lowers gears up to only 8k then exspect to go 200 miles with MORE than enough to go another 50 before stuck without fuel.

I’m gonna relate a story.
On 30 May, I made a 38-ish mile one way (and of course return) trip to help a member. Total miles around 75-ish.
Rained on, 35 minutes of getting to interstate, 15 minutes of I-485, idiots in Charlotte in UNCC area while getting rained on the 500 while sitting at stop lights that wouldn’t change... with cars behind me filling the atmosphere with the lovely stench of weed. I made it.
0400 I left after making his bike run and another 38-ish miles home...
I burned 1.53 gallons.
70 mph on interstate, strict adherence to 55, 45, 35, etc where needed as speed limit law dictated.
Twisted it up to 8-9 and occassionally 11 while rolling up through 1-2 and 3-4.
Not like I needed to get it up too high.
Mine will pull 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.
A simple roll in the throttle with correct gear will get you out, ahead, or away from trouble.

50 mpg, EASY.

If you can’t pull at least 35 mpg then SOMETHING is wrong with your machine.

NP, Gordon.
I’ll try to keep my 5th grade school yard vernacular to a minimun.
The message was still there.
@P-N@$ty
The tank, regardless od Gen1 or Gen2 is exactly the same.
It’s basically 4.8 US gallons total of course depending on +/- how full you fill it.
The reserve is about a gallon. Means you have ABOUT 50 miles once you flip over to reserve.
Main fuel supply is ABOUT 3.7-3.8 gallons.
Meaning you “should” at least easily get 200 miles before switching the petcock to reserve. That would be “about 50” mpg.
This is assuming you don’t keep the engine revved to the stratosphere and trying to do drag race type launches.

Easiest way is to know your route and know the miles you’re gonna travel. Spend enough time with it or any other machine and you’ll eventually just “know” how far you can go by mearly popping open the fuel lid and looking.

No offense but it’s not rocket science, guys.
If you feel the need to death watch the left side trip meter, reset it every time you fill the tank and refill tank when it hits 200.
And yes, it’s in miles, not Km.
