Probably shopping for a new lid this coming season, to replace my HCJ FG-12.

I find the first weekend of Jan show at the international center to be the best for gear.

My brain bucket ATM is an HJC AC12 Carbon. Used to be (and still have) a CL14. man what a difference.

Cost me $300 shipped from an online vender.

I have a Z1R. It's my first helmet, as I just started riding in Sept. 05. Bought it based on the testing of helmets in Motorcyclist magazine...it was one of 3 or 4 brands with the lowest impact to the head, and they tested many, many brands. The Z1R was also one of the least expensive. I don't have anything to compare to since it's my first helmet, but I have been very satisfied with the comfort and fit so far.

After reading "Blowing the Lid Off" (http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/) I chose the plastic helmet that fit my head best right off the shelf, HJC CL-15. Wind noise level: I can't hear my stock exhaust past 30-35 mph, I sit high on the bike so my head is really out in the breeze just motoring. This is my first helmet so I can't compare with others.

HJC ac-11 pretty good but can be noisy so i wear ear plugs.

right now, a bell zephyr model. it wasnt expensive, but it IS DOT certified, so for the moment, till I can afford the Icon Mainframe, it'll do. the mainframe is better lookin and SNELL approved.

I plan to stop by Smoky Mtn Adventure Sports and shop the "wall of HJC" for an ac-12, I know what you speak of.

how much do all these things cost? I spent like 65 bucks on my Gmax helmet thats DOT and SNELL approved. I have the same wind noise issues as someone else in this thread, 30 plus and all I hear is wind. But I guess you get what you pay for. I go to www.ridegear.com for my gear needs.

Excellent point Luke. In an earlier post I mentioned that I got a Z1R based on the article "Blowing the Lid Off" in Motorcyclist Magazine...which indicated it was one of the safest helmets, and one of the least expensive...I paid 95 bucks with tax. Since I wear ear plugs when I ride, wind noise is not an issue anyway, and the fit and comfort have been fine. So I do not yet understand why some pay as much as $500+ for a less protective lid.
